Has this ever been addressed on any of the modern Trek shows?

I have this idea that—for the holodeck to work…you need a very..unsettled…form of power…something all in a state of flux….like something right after the Big Bang…a lot of virtual winking in and out. Nearly the power of creation.

For engines—you want that power constant…down to the last watt.

Pliability is the key I suppose.

Hm, wondering now.... could the holodeck be capable of projecting its own power generation system to supply it with power? (similar to how those wristband-transporters are capable of transporting themselves too, in some way)

Honestly, I totally buy the in-universe explanation as to the holodecks' separate power source.

Picard is absolutely correct: Having the holodecks available for the crew to let off steam during a crisis is vital to the morale of that crew.

True, the OUT-of-universe reason is so the old shows could have "holodeck gone wrong" episodes no matter how much damage the ship took, but that doesn't really matter anymore. PIC made a good case for it.

I was thinking of suicide bombers for that Voyager double Flesh and Blood.

Photon Torpedoes make for a big bang.

These freedom fighters are made from photons.

Surely they just need to stick a lit candle up their butt and wait, right?

Or if you're in a crisis where being able to power one more system could mean the difference between life and death. Who would want to transfer power to critical systems when you can sit on a fake beach until you die?

(Picard doesn't specifiy that the holodeck power is incompatible as they did in Voyager, but
1. The Picard showmakers have quoted Voyager as precedent, and
2. If it isn't, surely they'd have used that power.)

So there.

If you have the ability to manipulate any kind of matter you have immense levels of energy being produced. Even flattening a piece of metal will create intense heat. There's no way it's low on energy if it is any way described like it is on the show.

The holodeck for all intents and purposes would be able to produce enough energy to fuel a small town or even a city.

It's very unliklely something like a holodeck would ever exist, it's already a massive suspension of disbelief, but the idea it'd be low energy is just out of the park.

You'd get more mileage if you convinced me farts were being used as a way of turning the ship into a blimp and letting it float.

Actually thinking about the time period they all live in by our standards a 9v battery today might be able to power a 24th Century Laptop if they made one that worked like a current day laptop using their technology since some of it runs on very, very low power.
