Wasn't that the writers fan-boying over Jonathon Frakes and just wanted him to show up as much as possible?

Star trek is still pretty niche. I have no problem with Wil saying "nerds". It still holds pretty true. Star trek can't get Star Wars or Marvel numbers. It's just the reality. I do kind of like that it isn't as popular as those franchises.

Saying Star Trek is for nerds is one of the continued black marks on a franchise supposedly about inclusiveness.

Nerds are pretty mainstream now, considering comic book movies are the biggest draws at the movies.

Who cares about mainstream? It comes across as "stay in your lane."

I never got any sense of bad intentions out of it. Wil also considers himself a nerd.

He leads a harder life than most 20 year olds attending university. Besides, he's more like 24. Besides, I've seen high schoolers who looks older than him.

I spent 11 years working at a high school and I swear to God some of those kids were able to grow better beards as teenagers then I have ever been able to.

I knew a couple folks who could grow a decent goatee in the sixth grade.

This is an appropriate discussion for this thread, considering Wil is now 50 and still waiting for his beard to stop being patchy.

He is a good actor and I can suspend disbelief. Maybe he aged ten years in a transporter accident or time travel mishap. I also could look at the movie posters of Eragon or the TV show Downton Abbey, where the actor is atpround the right age for this character, and mentally juxtapose that image over the one of him from Picard.

Not much disbelief to suspend, as people age differently. I've seen 30 year olds who could pass as 15 years olds and 20 year olds who could pass for a 40 years olds.

Most of Humanity would prefer to look younger as they age.

30 y/o who can pass for 15 y/o is a "Fountain of Youth" level DNA lottery.

    Imagine being 60 y/o and looking / feeling / functioning / moving like you're modern day 30 y/o.

    Now imagine if you're 100 y/o and looking / feeling / functioning / moving like you're modern day 50 y/o.

That's some genetic engineering that people would love to have.

To put the age question to bed.

Jack is 23-24. Confirmed by episode 3x04.

I could buy that. Chris Pine played a Mid-20s Kirk just the same.
