Um..Wesley was born while Beverly was in Wedlock with Jack Crusher Sr. = Not a Bastard (at least by definition.)
It's as good as any other way to distinguish between the two.

Wesley and Jack are *definitely* the William and Harry of the Star Trek Universe. I wonder if they would get on if they met? We may find out later on this season, it would be a shame to leave Wil Wheaton out of a TNG reunion.
Is it possible that the Jack Crusher in Picard is actually Wesley Crushers Dad? A younger version of Jack yet to be sent back in time by Beverley to fulfil the destiny of Wesley ‘Traveller’ being born? This means that Picard could be Wesley’s grandfather. It could all be a predestination paradox of sorts. This may be why Vadic is hunting down Beverley and Jack… to stop Traveller Wesley, the galaxies ultimate warrior, from being born in the past.
This would all explain why Terry Matalas said that we need to watch ‘Sub Rosa’ before watching Picard season 3.
Pretty sure that's considered cruel and unusual in most countries. And a war crime by the United Nations.
Too bad Terry Matlas will be too busy at the Hague to produce more Star Trek...

I am yet to be won over, but potentially could he not lead Picard series 4? Production wise this may make things easier as the lead would still be a ‘Picard’ so it can be marketed as a series continuation rather than a totally new series, surely this would save money somehow if it’s going to take extra time and money to get the Seven spin-off prepared? It would save money on having to commission a *totally* new show in the interim considering that they want new Trek shows and toons streaming without gaps throughout the year?

While I realize casting Jack with an actor 10 years older isn't a big deal for a season arc, it's going to look really glaring if they give him a role in a 5+ season show, since the chances of him sliding into middle age looks while still theoretically playing a 20something are rather high.
This is honestly what happened with Tilly on Discovery. Not that think Mary Wiseman was a mistake in terms of casting, but they never should have cast someone in their early 30s as a cadet. Now she's in her late 30s and looks it, so they've just had to sort of elide the whole issue of her character's age entirely.
I do not think that people should be cast solely for their physical appearance, genetics or age. We all age at different rates, but CGI tech should be cheaply available in a few years to de age people if necessary.
There is nothing to stop Mary Wiseman coming back as an older version of herself one day, seasons do not have to be linear. There is also nothing to stop Mary Wiseman coming back in the ‘present’ as Tilly. In the same vein, Jack could continue as a Picard either in a linear progression or with a 10 year time jump. The actor may even be bald in a few years which would add to the on screen genetic authenticity of the character.
American films and TV productions have always cast actors and actresses older than they are supposed to be, you should go watch Grease.
Cheaply? Yes. Believably? No, not yet. It's close, but on a TV schedule it's not as effective as they want it to be yet.

That sounds somewhat incestuous, in a Terminator meets Back to the Future kind of way.

Easy solution.
Do a 25th Century series set around the 2415 or so. Jack is now a command officer under a Starfleet Commission. Rose up the ranks like Chris Pine Kirk. And he'll be playing his age. You could have Speelers play the role in a much more mature way.
The Laforge actress is in her 30s currently as well and is playing younger.
