The Best Star Trek since Voyager Season 5 says the Popcast

I feel bad for the actor/actress who played Rios and Jurati. They basically got kicked out of their own show so the writers can make fans happy by bringing back the TNG cast who should be retired and faded into obsurity.

Star Trek has been here since at least 2017. Some has been good and some have been not as good. I'm partial to Lower Decks and Prodigy but milage may vary.

They can always bring the actors back. Rios can play one of his hologram characters and the Borg Queen can show up anytime she wants. Or they can play new characters on another show. I understand not like having those characters kicked out but at the same time you got to deal with the fact that time is running out for the TNG actors. They aren't getting younger.

If you are going to do one more adventure before saying good bye to them then this show seems like a good place to do it. It is what Star Wars should have did with it's first Disney movie and something Quantum Leap should have done years ago before waiting so long that Dean Stockwell ended up dying meaning no reunion ever between Sam and Al.

My non-spoiler review: That was fucking awesome!!!

That's it. That's my official Non-Spoiler Review.

Now, if some certain someones think that means I'll denounce all the rest of New Trek: sorry, but Tough Shit! I still like all of DSC and PIC up to this point, and SNW to a lesser extent. I just like Picard Season 3 (so far) a little bit more than Picard Season 1 and Discovery Season 4, which are my other two favorite seasons of Star Trek in this era.

While I feel bad for the actors not having a job, IMHO one of the worst aspects of long-form TV shows is that story choices end up becoming defined by the cast rather than by what the writers come up with.

I mean, one classic example of this is Stranger Things. One of the reasons the first season is so much better than what came after is that all of the characters were created with particular story roles in mind. After that it flipped, and the writers had to create story arcs to fit the already created characters. So there's always been less impactful B/C plots which just kind of sputter along to give the actors something to do.

I feel bad for the Soji actress also. She was such a big part of season 1 and seemed excited about her character, only to play another character in season 2 in a plot that didn't really seem to fit. From a story perspective this makes sense not having them though. Even if they hadn't written out Rios, Jurati, and Soji there is no reason Picard needs to keep hanging out or having adventures with them.

Nerdrotic has seen all ten season 3 episodes. Looks like a positive review.
  • he would buy the season on blu-ray or 4K
  • possibly "the best TNG movie" but with the cuffs of Kurtzman Trek
  • much closer to the tone of the TNG films that the series
  • "it doesn't feel like this show hates me or Star Trek"
  • with the repurposing "you can feel the love", doesn't come across as stealing
  • you need to give it 2-3 episodes to get hooked, the first ep is just a primer
  • nothing important to the story comes from STP seasons 1 or 2
  • Shaw has a character arc
  • a good, positive ending
  • Troi likely the least present TNG character
  • situation is like HOUSE OF THE DRAGON following up GAME OF THRONES S8
  • thinks it will be very similar to ANDOR... people will like it, but too much damage already done
  • very much an ensemble cast
  • his main complaints are Raffi, the swearing, worries the math doesn't add up (passage of time?), and fears if the show is successful Kurtzman will just steal the follow up idea
  • Picard is still a robot, but two other major things from seasons 1/2 are undone
  • there is a quick cameo from an "OG character"... this came when he was talking TOS movies, so who knows?
  • implies Jurati isn't even mentioned
  • ruled out ties to GEN and NEM, but not FC and INS
  • Frakes is in all ten episodes but just has the special guest star credit
  • looks like Seven and Raffi are over
  • it will really make you want to watch DS9

Looks like there could be a fandom menace civil war.
Good, let them tear themselves apart.
Looking forward to the fireworks.
Looks like the lines are being re-drawn into their final form for the Kurtzman Era.

They've almost gained everyone they're going to gain (short of Paramount+ itself expanding in general) and have just about shed everyone they're going to shed (those people have become ultra-jaded and are finally tuning out for good).

Just let the process happen. We'll all be better off for it.

Fandom is like politics. I'm done arguing with the other party in politics and I'm just about done arguing with the other "party" here. We all know what we're getting, we all know where we stand, we all know what it's going to be, we can either accept it or not, and it's just pointless to argue about anymore. At the end of the day: I got what I wanted, some other people got what they wanted, and some other people still didn't get anything they wanted. Sucks to be that last group, but that's the way it is.

Thanks for the run down, because no way was i giving that bigoted piece of shit views or engagement.

These peoples attitude towards Alex Kurtzman make me laugh. 'Steal the follow up idea' what the fuck does that even mean? How can they be so half-witted as to not understand that Kurtzman hired the showrunners like Matalas and Mike McMahan and The Hageman Brothers and basically told them to make the show they wanted to make and left them to it.

More like Doomcock vs everyone else.

Links ≠ full endorsement. But it is news that a YouTuber with 700k subs that has been highly critical of the franchise since 2017 is giving a good review.

To be fair, allegations have been made that Alex Kurtzman contributed to forcing out Bryan Fuller and also pilfering his initial concept for what then became PICARD. SNW took story ideas from DC Fontana and Ursula K LeGuin without attribution. So I can see why some would have concerns.

No news is work polluting my YT feed with this nonsense. Sorry, but Star Trek YT has become an echo chamber at best, and toxic at worst. I don't see the need to feed it with any views whatsoever. No clicks, nothing.

Which isn't remotely true. Bryan Fuller stepped down because his decisions put Discovery over budget and delayed it. Fuller was also working on American Gods at the time which conflicted with his ability to be showrunner for Discovery. Fuller also stepped down from American Gods for the exact same reasons that forced him out of Discovery. The only person to blame for Fuller's departure is Fuller himself.

Bryan Fuller is still under an NDA. In the meantime all we have to go on are statements made by people who are friends with him and likely have some knowledge of the situation. Hence my use of "allegation" which could then inform how YouTubers are interpreting the current studio office politics.

YT interpretations need a Costco size bag of salt to go with it.

Sorry, seen enough conspiracy theories around Star Trek now that I think it's all BS.
