Talinn refers to having kept Renee safe for 20 years but what exactly has she done to keep her safe? She just watches and says she can not interfere. Wow is that keeping her safe? And despite working for the travelers she didn't seem to know how important Renee's flight was for the timeline so what is the point of her job? Just watch someone's life on a viewscreen because...?

What history though? And how? Didn't she fail in the timeline when Renee didn't get on the flight? She said she can't interfere so how does she make sure history plays out? She would have just continued watching if Renee chose not to get on the flight, she even said maybe Renee wasn't supposed to get on the flight - it was Picard that convinced her something needed to be done. It seems like her job is just to "watch" her assigned subject and do nothing.

Good post. I have just started my S2 re-watch as well, and have a fresh memory here. But I have a vastly different take on the Guinan/Picard "oh sh!t" moment.

My take is she knows the name, not him. When she hears the name, she immediately changes her tune and takes him to the watcher, whom she thinks will definitely want to talk to him. Why? His last name.

She either knows whom the Watcher is watching (Renee Picard) or knows who Renee is and puts two and two together from JLP's story.

As for the re-warch, I recently completed the re-watch and found it mostly excellent. The main exceptions being:

    1) Sending a galactically famous Admiral on and undercover mission in "Stardust City Rag,"

    2) The fact that a super-secret society within a devastated/dismantled/scattered civilization can whip up 218 ships in a matter of hours. As a bonus WTF, why did they need our ships to evacuate, again?

    3) The magical hand thingy from the synths that can not only fix Rios' ship (OK), but fools said 218 ships.

    4) The fact that Picard doesn't just tell the synths that Starfleet was sending ships to help them, but he & Soji decided to come on straight ahead without them.

I am only on episode 4 of S2, but agree the first two episodes were strong. But there are also glaring weaknesses in the first couple episodes which were harder to take.

    1) The escape from those Confederation ships was way too easy. I shot hits (no shields?). And when Queenie takes over, one shot destroys the ship!

    2) Why did no one just take Elnor's sword and forcefully disconnect the Queen when she was out & drawing power?

    3) Ignoring the butterflies. Rios at the clinic. Picard walking around with his communicator on his shirt. And the big one, Raffi & Seven steal a police car! Which Seven can drive (sort of). They escape a chase in the city and then drive unmolested for a while? Ridiculous. YMMV, of course.

The moments of ridiculous are harder for me to take in S2 and seem both more frequent and more ridiculous. At least so far. But S1 was better than I remembered. Quite good in fact.

Watching Ep 5 now. Leaving the Borg Queen alone on the ship (for no good reason, it was cold!) is so mind-numbingly dumb it is hard to express in words.

It is amazing the timeline got saved with these dumb@$$es trying to save it.

I'm re-watching the TOS Movies in the lead-up to PIC Season 3. If they're going to emulate them, I want those films fresh in my mind. I'd rather not rely on my memory. It's the same as when I re-watched all of TNG (and the TNG Movies) before PIC Season 1.

    Just finished TSFS.

After I'm done with all six movies, and I've seen the first episode of PIC S3, then I'm going back to PIC S2. That's the plan.

Just finished episode 8…I’m liking the season a little bit more as it goes on although I did skip the scenes in episode 7 where Picard was talking to his father. There are also things that bug me..like when Picard was in a coma talinn stated he was fixated on a memory and if she didn’t go in his mind he would be stuck there forever ? How could she know this? Her scanner just showed there was brain activity. And why make the leap and he would be stuck in his memory forever ? She also said q wanted that to happen to him and indeed he did, but that also seems like a leap from the info she had available.

Lot if stuff like that in PIC & Disco.

I am on S2E8 now. Someone tell me, how do they keep transporting back to the ship when no one is on it? I am sure there is a rational explanation in-universe, but it bugs me not remembering it.

There are some nice callbacks. The TVH callback with the guy on the bus. Rios' "I'm from Chile, I just work in space." Also TVH. I know the Guinan/Q stuff is all grounded in TNG. Good stuff there.

Does anyone know if some TNG episodes are particularly relevant to the S3 premier? I have been afraid to venture into spoiler threads.

Done with Mercy, Ep8 of S2. Pretty good aside from all too common plot stuff that does not make any sense regarding the transporter.

    1) Rios, Teresa, and the kis are transported back onto La Sirena. By, no one. The ship is empty. But the transporter just worked.

    2) It is then discovered that Jurati has sabotaged the transporter. But she is no longer on the ship.

So, how does that work. She sabotaged it & left the ship. Then it worked when Rios was beamed back on (by no one). But after he gets there, it is magically broken again by her sabotage.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think so. That's BAD. That kind of thing happens a lot in NuTrek (at least in Disco & Picard).

Rios and Viewers: "We've got big problems"

You're not missing anything and I noticed the same. I figured Rios just called the computer to beam him up. As for Jurati's sabotage..maybe it was on a timer? It also seemed to happen after Rios was running a diagnostic looking for more Borg code so maybe that activated it early and prior to that Jurati was going to send a signal to take over the transporters?

In 2.5 and 2.6 it's revealed Jurati's plan was to be captured. But how did she know that she was just be cuffed in the surveillance room and not kicked out or arrested by police? WHY was she just kept in the surveillance room in a chair? And in that scene she was talking really loud but the people right in front of her didn't hear her. Then she releases a spray that instantly causes the guards to lose consciousness and Jurati said they would lose their memory (convenient cop out). It's scenes like this and the transporter issue and other issues I've mentioned that really hurt this season for me. Also in 2.6 when security is going after Picard, Picard goes up the stairs and runs into a security guard - Picard turns around while the security guard just moves extremely slow instead of apprehending Picard...and then somehow loses Picard who was right in front of him before the power went out? Just bad.

Agreed. I just finished 10 and it has an answer to tge transporter mystery, saying Jurati hacked La Sirena from Soong's place. Still, about 2-3 episodes late.

And it had another totally unbelievable scene as Raffi & Seven apparently ran the gauntlet through all the armed/special forces/Borg with an ice pick & a knife. And Elnor sneaking around La Sirena and not being found. The ship ain't that big!

And it sure took Picard a while to remember there were secret passageways that could get them all out.

I did think ep 10 was good, and would have been great save for the utter non-sense sprinkled in.

At the end of 2.8 why do the mercs just stand there while they get assimilated? Or were they not really assimilated? Still, you would think the other soldiers would wonder what was happening to their friend who seemed to lose his mind instead of you know..just standing there? At one point in 2.8 the Queen made a reference to controlling them so why didn't she stop the ones with Soong that were about to kill Picard after she turned good?

Okay in 2.9 Jurati wirelessly creates an ECH that looks like Elnor..and it also has Elnor's memories. What? That last point is really ridiculous. So the ship automatically reads the memories of everyone who goes inside it and can basically create a virtual clone?

So hologram Elnor has the ship's codes...so is shooting him going to release the codes? He's a hologram and can't be harmed by bullets. It doesn't make any sense.

While they are running from the Borg Talinn stops Picard to ask about his memories since the Tunnels resemble the ones in his mind (ok? but you're running from soldiers and trying to take back the ship. Why are you stopping to ask about his memories. Couldn't you have this discussion another time?)

The phaser blows up when someone with different DNA holds it for too long - Convenient poor writing shortcut that was never mentioned before this moment. When did Rios learn how confederate phasers work? Maybe on the way to Earth but the viewers shouldn't be forced to fill in so many gaps here.

A lot of the things I've mentioned in this thread I noticed the first time but all these problems are even more noticeable when watching the episodes within a shorter time frame

Why didn't Seven know how money works? She asks this more than once during the season. We've seen other species have currency. She was a borg. She was a Fenris ranger. Yet she doesn't know how money works?

It makes sense to me that the BQ knew that the timeline was different and even knew what changed, but how did she become aware of the multiverse (Telling Agnes she's alone in all realities) and a fortune teller (Saying one Renee must die and one must live). Her knowledge from assimilation couldn't have given her that information.

Soong in 2.10 allowed to walk around unescorted doesn't make sense. And the timeline doesnt make sense either. He told the Europa Mission employee that he was going to go see the astronauts so immediately goes to Renee's room. So since the assistant was taking Soong to Renee, Renee wasn't yet prepping for launch or anything. So he poisoned Talinn and then minutes later we see the shuttle take off. So the mission commander just walked on the shuttle and took off in minutes?

Why did Soong have that audio of him talking about the drones in his lab? If he was planning to destroy the shuttle (and I guess he didn't think it would be traced to him?) then why did he go kill Renee in person? Again, if he broke quarantine to see Renee and then she died did he not think that he would be suspected?

I am sorry I can't rewatch season 2, I thought it was terrible. The pacing is so bad, nothing happens for lunch stretches of time.

The Romulan Star Empire disintergrating and losing its capital solar system was perhaps why a once obscure secret society would recently become a massive paramilitary movement (see the Wagner Group in post-Soviet Russia as a RL example of that happening).

And while their two hundred ships may seem impressive to casual viewers, they came across as bullies who skulked away when confronted by a real space navy and clearly a spent force on the galactic stage (especially when you compare it to a original Romulan Star Empire's much more impressive fleet in SNW).
