I was planning on watching through a LP of the game in track with the series (I finished the LP last I watched when Joel kills the FEDRA.)

But now it seems they're not quite pacing one another?

(It's been years since I played the game and don't remember it very well. Not even sure if I finished it. Shit. I just might buy it for my PS4 and try playing it again if I can find the time.)

Yeah, the flashback to Jakarta was really interesting and the actors ( both her as the scientist and the military officer) did a brilliant job showing the terror they experienced when the talked about the "solution" to the infection.

Thinking a bit about the cure problem i can only assume that they have tried all available antifungal variants on the fungus and none of them worked and as it is so highly contagious they must have figured they don't have time to develop one before everything breaks down.
Keep in mind that this is no mere toe nail fungal infection - you get one you don't turn into a zombie that attacks anyone in sight.

I read the same in an IGN article and the reasoning is understandable. On top of this we wouldn't have gotten the super creepy and disgusting "kiss of death" scene with Tess, that really sent a shiver down my spine.

Loved the episode, the opening flashback to how/where it all started ( the producers actually did their research - Jakarta has apparently one of the largest flour mills in the world) to the tense buildup in the museum and the first reveal of the Clickers and Tess' end ( really frightening and sad) the show is off to an amazing start.

What is terrifiying is that these Zombies move FAST, these are not Walking Dead typical slow zombies and that puts the danger in a whole new category as only one or two are able to quickly overwhelm you and the fact they are connected makes it just so much worse.

I love that i am completely unspoiled to the entire story about to unfold as i have never played the game, that is a new experience for me :) I figured Tess would die just because all Promo Material and posters always only feature Joel and Ellie so i guessed Tess won't make it far.

I'm in the same boat here. And honestly, while I'm enjoying The Last of Us, I'm not sure its reason enough to keep my subscription.

I really hope we get a Season 2, just so we can see the non-gamers reactions to a huge event that happens in the beginning of the second game. A lot of gamers lost their shit over it, and I have feeling the show fans will probably go even more nuts.
Since there's a pretty good chance we'll get Season 2 long before a potential third game, I wonder if that means this will only be a 2 season show. Neil Druckman has said they won't go beyond the games, and unless they've been secretly working TLoA Part III, there's pretty much no way it will be out before Season 2 is over.

There's a pretty significant time jump between the two games, I'd be willing to bet any season 2, and maybe 3, would deal with that period instead of jumping straight to TLoU2. For a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that it gives Naughty Dog time to release the inevitable TLoU3.

Given the reality of TV and game production it may be a huge problem if they won't/can't move past 2 seasons/games for the TV show. For one Pascal and others may simply not be available when HBO is ready to continue and doing it now without him may tank the show ( see the impending Witcher desaster on Netflix).

The other problem is that no matter how good the show is they can't make a 2-3 year break between each season and wait for the game to continue the story, people will lose interest with such long gaps and there are precious few exceptions to this.

They may well split the second game across two seasons. As for TLOU III, there have been rumblings for a while; Neil Druckmann has stated they have a story sitting there. Given the development time for a game like TLOU, maybe 2025 - 26? There's your season 4 - 5, potentially.

They're working on a TLOU multiplay game right, so depending on how far along they are in that it might be longer. I read an interview with Druckman the other day, and he said they don't have story or anything concrete for 3rd game right now, but they're open to one if they can come with a story they like.
Nope, Neil Druckman has said that the show will only cover the stories from the games. So it sounds like we're going to jump right to an adaptation of Part 2 for Season 2.
Well, Pedro Pascale probably won't be a regularly once they get Joel's death in probably the first 2 or 3 episodes of Season 2. We might get the occaisional flashback with him depending on how cloesly they follow the game's story, but that'll be it.

There's a big enough time skip between games that season 2 could be an original story set between games, assuming they follow the games directly.

Ah right - just read it. I must've read some speculative article a few months back.

Given the author of the source material is running the show, it makes staying respectful a whole lot easier!

What makes this such a great adaption is not only how respectful it is, but also how it goes about expanding and enhancing the source material.

It helps that the creator of the game works on the show.

I sat down expecting a hour of terrifying fungus zombies and got the most gut wrenching love story in years.

I didn't know what to expect this week, but it wasn't that.

Nick Offerman in full prepper mode at the beginning was awesome.

That was a brilliant, beautiful episode.

Also - terrible news about Annie Wersching; I had no idea she was behind the performance of Tess until seeing the news today.
