If there was an S3 of Short Treks, what do you expect to see?

These are not the purpose of Short Treks. They were meant to just be webisodes focusing on the shows they were currently producing.

But, if they plan to revisit Burnham and the Klingons in the 32nd century, I don’t see what’s the big deal in having a 30 minute Short Trek featuring Harriman, Demora Sulu, Azetbur and Colonel Worf in the early days of peace between the Federation and the Klingon Empire Something that can be called back to when the Discovery crew needs a reference when meeting the Klingons again, and want to compare their personal experiences.

Similar, seeing how the EMH has lived during the Burn makes sense as a set up to an episode dealing with his arrival/discovery.

Its not any different than the Short Trek of Tilly getting Po some ice cream. Or the schoolgirls having a fight at school before learning of the synth attack on Mars. Or Burnham being told a bedtime story.

Because the viewing audience doesn’t know or care about Harriman, Demora, Azetbur and Colonel Worf?

-- Followup of what happened to Prime Universe Lorca.

-- Date night with Saru and President T'Rina, a romantic comedy.

-- Zora and Craft reconnecting with the Discovery crew and explaining why they had to jump back to the past and leave the ship in the nebula for 1,000 years while they all returned to the 32nd century (through the Guardian of Forever perhaps?).

-- Aboard the more traditionally styled Enterprise, Captain Robert April, First Officer George Kirk Sr., 2nd Officer Christopher Pike, and CMO Sarah April handle a crisis that results in the elder Kirk's death and Pike's assumption of the First Officer position.

-- Followup with Nhan following the completion of her mission aboard the seed vault ship.

-- Adira takes her adoptive parents Hugh and Paul on a tour of 32nd century Earth so we can see some wild futuristic cities and mega-projects, like an artificial ring, space elevators, artificial continents like New Atlantis, raised or floating or underground cities to preserve natural habitats, vacuum tube maglev connecting all the continents, fully restored ice caps, etc.

-- Revisit Sahil from S3x01 as he goes through his daily routine again but now he's got a fully operational station and fleet to command which we will follow as they investigate a mystery that will set up the overarching plot of the next season.

Oh yes, I'm sure he has just OODLES of leverage.

It’s not that. It’s that he probably has no desire whatsoever to reprise a one-time role he did almost thirty years ago, that he probably cares nothing about, for a total of seven minutes of screen time, for yet another seven minutes of screen time. The fantasy of these actors just waiting at home for Paramount to call them to reprise old roles is a strong one.

I mean, he did a fan film at one point in time so there might be some interest for him, as well as just the fact that money is a nice thing to have.

Yes, there's always a risk of using known characters, especially if there is recasting. On the one hand, you are inviting fans in to the fold because of familiarity with the world. On the other hand, there is the chance that it will alienate general audience members, who may have no interest and not drawn in by the exclusionary nature of the knowledge, and the fans who's own expectations will not be met. I would lean towards newer characters, but I'm not opposed to seeing some older characters either.

All in how they are used and how they can bring in the most audience members.

Recasting: I’m not sure what the point would be to recast Harriman, because the hardcore fanboys who would actually want to see him again would most likely want to see the same actor who portrayed him originally.

I think that, say, unless they’re going to make a Harriman series, the chances of a Short Trek devoted to him would be nil. And considering that the Short Trek format itself doesn’t seem likely to return, that makes it even more unlikely to happen.

Then again, Ruck might very well enjoy the chance to actually have an acting career again.

The chances are low, but that doesn't mean people can't talk about it. I believe it's called dreams.

And how exactly am I stopping people from talking about it? I’m just being a realist. I for one would love to see any post-TUC/pre-TNG time period, but 1.) it’ll probably never happen, and 2.) it certainly won’t happen with a Short Trek.

Sorry, maybe I'm misreading it, but saying "won't happen" pretty much reads as conversation killer to me. As in, not worth discussing as it probably won't happen time of conversation killer.

Edited because I think I'm misunderstanding.
