Anyone here having a problem with the Skip Intro feature? Seems like that it no longer properly skips the intro, it either skips too early in the middle of the opening, or about 30 seconds into the episode already. That plus the forward and rewind features with the preview thumbnails no longer is accurate ether. I'm on a Roku, so not sure if its just a problem on my end.

They might've missed out on the biology one.

Unless I'm missing something, they were only a letter off... either that, or it was intentional and the geneticist might not have known it should be pronounced Homo Sapiens.

If either is the case, then it was an honest (and quite frankly minor) mistake, or it was part of the geneticist lack of knowledge (which could effectively go hand in hand with 'too good to be true' aspect).

On the flip side, the initial gene modification seemed to have been a success... had Dal not 'pumped up the volume', he might have avoided the total crash he was headed to... or it could have occurred either way, just at a far slower rate.

Was Asencia as future version of gwyn, or just another vau nakat? Hard to tell...

This is something I wondered myself, because visually, they look very similar... but then again, that could be just a coincidence.
On the other hand, if that IS future Gwyn, then it presents an interesting twist, and she would had to have originated from a different timeline alltogether (because as far as we know, nothing was mentioned the Diviner had a daughter in the future from which he is from), or she is Diviner's original daughter from his own future .
Asencia is also voiced by a different actress... but, that could be a product of her maturation (age difference) or just the fact they aren't the same person.

Given what we know to date, I would guess she's just another Vau'Na'Kat in disguise... not future Gwyn.

Seconding the feeling that the Soongs are more than a little overplayed. But that was a small niggle in an otherwise enjoyable episode. As usual, I just wanna give these kids massive hugs. And the new Tal Shiar tac suits look fantastic!

So if Dal is an augment, does that mean he's automatically barred from Starfleet?

The show is meant to introduce new audiences to Star Trek. If this is how they nod to the Soongs (who are a huge part of it at this point), I think that’s perfectly fine.

Indeed. The Soongs are a big part of Trek, and the character of Data shows up a time or too. As introductions go this was rather inoffensive. Especially since it's meant to help people understand characters and concepts in Star Trek.

According to the display, Dal is part Ferengi, Breen, Son'a (meaning Ba'ku), Tholian, Cardassian, Romulan, Insectoid, Andorian, Klingon, Dominion (unclear which), Hirogen, Maquis (mostly Human, makes no sense), Risian, Bajoran, Vulcan, Human, and 10 unknown ones (orange).

Dal says he feels like he is growing a third arm, so there is probably some Edosian in there too.

Wow. Vice-Admiral Janeway does not like being told NO. And no one better than Admiral Jellico to rein her in! We all know he's an asshole, but he gets results. Inspired choice.

Poor Dal. He makes the pilot of the time ship in "Future Tense" look like a pureblood by contrast. Clearly he was whipped up in a blender like some smoothie containing all the species of the galaxy, the kitchen sink, said blender, the toaster, the Keurig, the cutting board, the cabinets, etc. He's like the genetic equivalent of the Federation from just before the Burn. Will he turn out to be from the future, too? Is everyone secretly from the future in this show? :guffaw:

Maybe Janeway should never have tricked time in the first place to get her crew home early. Who knows the consequences from that?!

Okona runs off! I'd probably run to fight another day, too, given the circumstances. No latent genetic superpowers in my body to save the day, I'm sure. But my flatulence did save me from the class bully during one recess...

Murf in a hamster ball. Too funny! And he's got moves Odo would marvel at!

That coffee table. Oh that coffee table...:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:
No wonder Janeway switches to tea!

Another space elevator! And epic confrontation! Those Romulans dropped like flies!!! LOSERS!!!

Ascensia pulls a reset to factory default setting. And...did not see that coming! Holy Scooby-Doo reveal, Batman! They should call this show, Star Trek: Onion!

I almost forgot about the new episode because I have been so miserable about my fractured ankle. I didn't remember it until a couple of hours ago.:wtf:

Loved the Romulans in this. Would like to see the sleeker, elite Romulans in live action sometime.
The episode had some nice revelations too without really giving anything away.

I wonder if Diviner coming back in time and planting the virus in the Protostar is what leads to the destruction of his homeworld.

We did the the helmeted Romulans in Picard

But as this is pre-supernoca I'd have loved if one of the Tal-Shiar agents had been Laris.

Wow.

Bottom right picture.
The symbol between Romulan and Cardassian is Orion (Orion Colonies, specifically).
To the right of the Orions you have Gorn.
Symbol left of Orion could be another Xindi logo.

Another exciting episode, I’m going with an 8 as I found the genetic subplot a bit too convenient.
Also, yet another alien masquerading for years as a Starfleet officer, like commodore Oh, and who manages to be on the right ship at the right time somehow?

The new Murf surely kicks ass and for the first time they seem to actually intentionally do something to help the crew. Good that Janeway isn’t totally buying the “savages” story, but the kids overpowering the Tal Shiar may lead her to reconsider.
Okona is definitely going to help the kids by explaining their plea to Janeway.

Loved the Voyager model in her ready room, by the way!

A lot of kudos for this one. We find out where Dal came from, Murf shows some new skills, both Janeways are awesome, and Rok-Tahk is still adorable despite being a mobile brick wall. Bummer to lose Okana, but we have Jellico and this unknown new player in the game. Prodigy is quickly turning into one of my favorite Nu Trek's.

So if Dal is an augment, does that mean he's automatically barred from Starfleet?

Not necessarily.
Starfleet made special dispensation for Bashir... who actively HID his genetic modification from them... of course his father went to penal colony for a bit once it all came to light, so, that seemed like a slap on the wrist, and Julian retained his position in Starfleet.

In Dal's case, he doesn't seem to (usually) posses any enhancements that augments do (the ones we saw in this episode were artificially stimulated)... at least, not yet. Maybe he will develop more abilities as he matures (only without harmful side-effects)... but either way (and much like in Bashir's case), his genetic origin was not his fault.
In Dal's case, he never had a choice in the first place because he was created through artificial means (I think Starfleet might show leniency in that regard... and also look at their overall behavior throughout their lives to determine if they have any bad tendencies to see if they might be a threat to society at large).

Maybe this will present an issue for him for joining SF initially, but its possible Admiral Janeway and holo-Janeway will vouche for him.

Maybe Ascenia is the Diviner's real daughter (who he assumed was killed during the original fall of Vau N'Akat) , and Gwyn is a clone of her, which the Diviner grew in a test tube after going back in time? It might explain why the Diviner gives Gwyn such an unusual title ("my Progeny") and how we never see her mother.

It would also create a bond between Gwyn and Dal, i.e. that they're both test tube babies.

This is all pure speculation, of course.
