Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

Alpha canon is always what appears in TV and film. Otherwise there would be years of video games, novels, and comics that all contradict each other and what comes on the shows later.

Well, there are. Always have been. Star Trek doesn't have "alpha" or "beta" canon, it just has canon and not-canon.

Anyway, I've never understood how a computer game can be part of any universe's canon, since a game is experienced differently by every player, so there's no single version of what happens. At best, it could be treated as a game based on something that really happened in the universe, but that means its details could be different from the way it "actually" took place.

In Star Wars at least (unless otherwise confirmed by another source), just the characters (minus gender/race choice if that's an option) and and objects and locations and such were all canon, but the events and such were ambiguous.

Like for example, the Battlefront games obviously none of those Multiplayer battles are canon because well it's multiplayer, but all the vehicles, weapons, gear etc. that the game introduced is canon.

Most games if they had a simple Light Side/Dark Side ending, the light ending was canon.

It really depends on the game. But something like the Dark Forces series that doesn't have any dialogue options, the basic events were canon. Like Kyle went here, did these objectives and left. Obviously the number of people/creatures he killed isn't canon, as not everyone kills everything.

Dark Forces 2 onwards did have Dark Side options, but those ones have been confirmed that the light side options were the canon ending. Though Jedi Academy had a character creator, a later novel made it canon that the main character was a generic boring white male Human.

Even the KOTOR games had some options and a certatin character design made 'canon', which I didn't like, I hate it when that happens with RPGs. There shouldn't be 'canon' endings, dialogue choices and character designs.

The story won't change depending on the player's actions in linear games. The only Trek game I remember right now that had 2 different events and endings depending on a choice you make earlier in the game was EF1. Most of these games fill in gaps that are open in canon. EF and Generations could have kinda happened this way between the scenes and episodes we saw. SFA and KA could easily fit between TFF and TUC. KHG fits into TNG/DS9, and AFU could've been a TNG 2-parter.

Is Prodigy going to run for the next 9 weeks, then a month gap before Picard in mid February? Or will they do another gap for Prodigy like they did in the first batch of S1?

Tuskin38 posted a list of episodes with airdates in post #1789 on this thread (one page back). It seems we get all 10 in a row, fortunately.

Wow, it sure would be great if someone could post the schedule of remaining season 1 episodes and their airdates.

Oh, wait a minute

EDIT: Damn, ninja'd. Now I just look like an asshole. Oh well.

I believe the producers went on record saying all 10 would be released consecutively.
That helps, thanks.

Then we get a ST free January apparently, unless something Star Wars or MCU is running then. Mando looks like February as well as Picard. What If? and Secret Invasion are "early" 2023.

Some more (recent) interviews:

The showrunners sure are confident in and proud of the season finale (eps 19-20)!
Pity they weren't asked about the status (regarding ordering/greenlighting) of a possible season 3.

Kate Mulgrew is equally confident regarding the resolution of Chakotay and Janeway. The showrunners confirm this thing will be resolved, but only in season 2.

One thing I'd prefer these days is that if the entire season is done being made... then it should just be released ENTIRELY for streaming purposes so you can watch all or most of it in one go.
