Spoilers Babylon 5 Reboot

While beeing a huge fan on Babylon 5, i hope it doesn't get a reboot. Babylon 5 was perfect in both story and cast.
There's nothing wrong with rebooting a drama. The original will still be there. Like BSG and old BSG.

Just because the Royal Theater of London produced the be-all and end-all of all Shakespeare's The Tempest, doesn't mean that any other theater gotta stop "rebooting" that play with their own cast and scenery.

Yes, just because there's a version of The Tempest with Helen Mirren as Prospera instead of a male actor as Prospero doesn't invalidate any other interpretation such as Prospero's Books, which someone described as The Tempest set in a nudist colony.

We need to stop being so precious about adaptations of fictional stories. Such adaptations will succeed or fail according to the whims of the general public. Works of high merit or critical acclaim can fail to garner an audience. However, revisionism of real historic events is something to be guarded against as a couple of episodes of Babylon 5 noted.

Reboots are dengerous cause they can kill the future of the franchise with bad reviews. And when it comes to Babylon 5 original series, you can't top it, can't make it better. So what ever it will be it will be worse that the original. Hence reboots are not always good, when you are already at the top.

Spin offs are good, cause they won't damage the original work. Altered story is also good, cause they will try to add something new, not rewrite the old.
Doesn't make any sense. You can't kill a franchise that's already dead. The only thing the reboot can kill is the reboot.

Babylon 5 was never dead. It's just on a pause waiting for it's time to come back. That's how it is with all big franchise, like Star Trek and Star Wars.
Plus it's not good to start now when Star Trek and Star Wars are going all out, show after show, series after series, it's really not a good time for Babylon 5 right now.
Yes exactly, its waiting to come back. As a reboot.

LOL

This comment is patently ridiculous.

The original Babylon 5 will still exist regardless what happens with this reboot project.

Indeed. Would be interested in it to see what they attempt and maybe draw attention to the original if nothing else.
Yup. If people suddenly start yelling about how the original is so much better, a lot of people who never saw the original will be tempted to give it a try. There is no negative here. The only possible problem is if this particular reboot sucks, and it costs us a chance to see a different reboot that would have been good. But there is no other reboot being talked about so...

With so many actors that passed away, i don't want their legacy to be totally re-written. There is only one G'kar, Mollari, Delenn, Vir, Sheridan, Sinclair, Marcus etc there is no need for others.
People used to say that about Kirk, and now we have 3 (counting SNW) Kirks across the various shows. With people like Bond and Batman, we are used to the character being portrayed by different actors.

So out of 3 series and would be series only 1 succeeded.
Lots of series don't get farther than a pilot or a first season. One out of three lasting longer than one season might be good going, I'm guessing. Perhaps one should also include Jeremiah and Sense8, which both lasted two seasons. In addition, number of episodes is not a good indicator of quality. Schlock can be very popular.

I am just worried that people might start hating B5 cause of reboot. After all, Crusader and Legend of the Rangers didn't got far. So out of 3 series and would be series only 1 succeeded.

The existence of a reboot would not have any effect whatsoever on the legacy of the original series.

It will have massive effect on the legacy of the actors left behind. That's their place in history of Sci-Fi, it must never be re-written by recasting the characters. Have to preserve and protect the memory of this great actors.
If JMS can't come up with a new story to sell, that's fine with me. B5 was perfect the way it was, there is no need to rewrite that masterpiece now. Especially after so many years. Who knows how this years affected JMS, we all change with times, specially television in recent years. It's just not the same that it was.

Nothing that does or does not happen with this reboot will have any effect on the OG B5 or its cast.

Even if the reboot gets picked up and new actors are cast in the iconic roles originated by Bruce Boxleitner et al, Boxleitner et al will forever remain the originators of said roles.

The hill you've chosen to die on here is nonsensical and completely out of touch with the reality of how stories are told and demonstrates a significant lack of understanding about the very nature of storytelling itself.
