To be honest, I would kind of prefer this but they would need someone who is good at ‘Cinema things’ to get involved too. Can’t JJ Abrahams and Kurtzman ‘collaborate’ on something together? This obviously won’t be made for television so would be on a greater scale production wise than the Paramount+ team are probably used to. This ain’t no ‘TV movie’ we are talking about!

Kurtzman and Abrams collaborate? Nah. Impossible. Never happen.

Well why not? Star Trek is now under one big umbrella so *anything* could happen…. They might even bring in some new blood? Or perhaps there is just no appetite for a Star Trek film anymore?

It's a joke. Kurtzman and Abrams have worked together for decades. Including on the Abrams trek films.

"I am not making this movie for Star Trek fans. I am making it for movie fans."
    - JJ Abrams promoting Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness

Oh, the irony. The only group of people who seem willing to continue this take on Star Trek are... Star Trek fans. And as we all know, that's not enough of an audience to make his movies, that are normally budgeted in the 9-digits, sustainable. Is it really that hard to wonder why Matt Shakman chose Fantastic Four over this? You think he's going to say "I'm not making Fantastic Four for Marvel fans"? Heck no.

Still, at the very least, I can say this now.

Reasons why I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe #344: The Fantastic Four killed the Kelvin Universe.

    I don't think there's an appetite.

Momentum was lost between the three films, with the third entry underperforming. It's been several years since the last entry; the studio want a blockbuster - that means a budget well in excess of 100 million + marketing costs.

I imagine if they had confidence a Trek feature film would book a tidy profit, they would have thrown the money at it already, negotiated with Pine & co and not cycled through half a dozen+ writers / directors.

Maybe they should make a film for an ‘international’ Star Trek audience rather than an ‘American’ Star Trek audience?

    This makes sense to me.

Maybe Paramount should start considering made for P+ movies. They are a studio capable of creating TV content too.

    You're doing it again.

Put down the Grievance Checklist™. Take your hands away from the keyboard until the urge to Dramatically Recite the Things You've Already Said More than Once passes.

They tried that already. It didn't work.

Though the prospect of doing it for real would be interesting. They would have to license out the property to different studios abroad. I'm thinking something along the lines of how the Godzilla films are tackled in the US vs Japan. Would these international Star Trek productions be canon with Star Trek made here in the states, or would they be their own thing?

Fun fact: This is the fourth post-Beyond story and sixth Kelvinverse script overall (possibly seventh, since Kelvinverse meets Discoverse was apparently a real thing at one point) to be shelved.

Yup. It comes down to confidence and certainty. In the current market, any uncertainty is going to create a pause.

I agree, momentum was lost. IN my opinion, 2009 should have launched what we have now with Trek content in terms of a blitz with books, comics, toys and the next film coming out by 2011. If Abrams' goal was for film fans and Trek fans alike to enjoy it then the frequency had to go up to support the average filmgoer's interest. I think 09 succeeded in that wetting of the appetite but the follow through let it languish too much to carry it on.
Let them be their own thing. Sounds way more fun to me.

It's just finally official what most knew for years anyways.

This! Short Treks. Long Treks. Mini series. Kelvin universe. Prime universe. New universe. Crossovers. They can literally do anything they want. Just give it a realistic budget, we don't need a blockbuster extravaganza.

That’s not quite what I meant. I meant make a film which is not America centric…. Have the characters truly from all around Earth, born in lots of different places. Show us a Starfleet headquarter branch in Africa, or an Academy in Malaysia…. Perhaps a shipyards in the Middle East. A bit like how in Picard they had the Daystrom Institute in Japan. Make it about the world, not just America and the west; a true international collaboration like the whole world is truly united and not focused purely on the ‘Americanised’ side. Make it so that anyone from any country could watch the movie and see it as possibly being *their* future, the future of humanity as a whole, not just America? I’m probably not explaining this very well…. :D

I guess I find it hard to believe that the first Kelvin Universe movie is the most popular one. Especially since I think it's the worst of the bunch.

This, too, has become a Grievance Checklist item.

You never seem to want to discuss why you believe it to be so, and you seem to have made a point of dropping that statement repeatedly into discussions which are not about the first movie.

I'd recommend finding a new shtick. This one's been worn out.

Wonder if the phenomenal reception and success of Strange New Worlds was a factor in the decision to scrap ST 4. Paramount is now looking at something new to totally change direction for the movies.

The last three films were so fantastically good!!!!! I think they will still have to make a new Star trek film with the same cast
Its just a question of when.?????
