Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

Once the old stuff was plugged into the new MB and PSU it was just switch on, make sure I had the right drivers and carry on :-) Windows is a lot more forgiving these days. I wish I could say Autodesk was. That was a friggen nightmare. But it's all sorted now.

That is the best kind of fix/upgrade for your hardware - no fuss :)

Sent you a PM via TreknoGraphics 101 Concerning the Uss Odysseus
Thank you for the old images, they will be of use.

I was having visions of having to reinstall everything and being out for a week... But the other half was calm about it all and said the major difference was the MB, just let it run and see what happened. Bingo, here I am again :-)

"Frankenstein" is doing a good job (know Frankenstein is the name of the creator not the monster, but what the heck). Case is a bit big for my desk, so it's going to be moving at the weekend - but I shall get some stuff done before then.

Now on to some info re the new build:
  • I am not building an exact version of the Ingram. Someone has already done that and done a super job of it. My goal is to rebuild what I had.
  • No, it will not be an exact match to what I lost, but it will echo it.
  • I do not plan to build lots of variations. Last time I built eight ships: the original, then the five - Prestidge, Odysseus, Guardian, Murray and Kamcaira - the shooting model USS Lexington - and, last but by no means least I started work on a 23rd Century refit. Their will only be the one mesh/ship - Odysseus, which will combine elements from the five I worked on as a block.
  • No megaphasers. Todd didn't actually want them on the ship, and I can live with that.
  • The nacelles (the UTI ones) will be long, and thin.
  • Not sure yet what I am going to do about the Bridge, whether I try and recreate what the Murray/Kamcaira had or adapt the one I already have.
That's about it for now, starting to block things out with primitives which I shall shape accordingly and then detail. Comments and critique welcome as always, more soon :-)

Blocking work finished, primitives shaped. More work will be done to finalise the shapes, and then... Details!

I'll do some proper Rec Dec sets when I get towards the end, in the mean got my usual rooms behind those windows.

Made a start on the nacelles -

I am powering through this - still don't understand why it took me fifteen years to build it last time... (Ok, so I had some breaks, major heart surgery twice, got married, moved house twice, adopted a cat... you know, life. But still, fifteen years. The mind boggles).

Anyways, C&C is always welcome. More soon :-)

These are very impressive.
A long time ago, I played around with a program called wings3d to try to make ships for a game called Oolite.
Never did really get the hang of it.

What program did you use to design these?

I use 3DS Max to make them. Been working in it for... Oh, twenty or so years now. I used to use Milkshape to make gaming models, but I stopped using that when I started using Max. Some of my gaming models for Star Trek Bridge Commander are still available - a "Blake's 7 Ship Pack" and the "Star Trek V Shuttle" (user handle Jayru).

Given the complexity and size of the mesh files in 3DS Max there is no way they could be used as game models. I would have to rebuild them as low poly models - and, not going to do that. Variations drive me nuts, lol

And I've put some guides in place...

I'm NOT building a perfect to plan Ingram, but rather I am going to try and rebuild the USS Odysseus which was kind of based off the Ingram design. I prob could do a more accurate version now, but... Lets see if I can bring the old girl back to life. Hunting through my emails to see what I have from Todd, as he did some logos for the ship I built. Would be nice to use them.

Anyways, more soon :-)
Thank you for doing this for us...
