Since Bateson is from the 23rd Century, he might be the go-to for missions requiring a "cowboy" mentality.

Maybe in his time he had experience with the Pakleds. Or since coming forward in time, he did.

Can you think of an episode where there was ever any indication that the ship did not have a direct line of sight to the transport destination?
Anytime they beamed a team under ground.

Or a more limited range? Which brings up all sorts of issues that a theme park recreation of the Phoenix would have a greater range than a Starfleet or civilian shuttle of the 2380s.

Bernd Schneider on EAS wonders why the Lower Deckers couldn’t just take any shuttle on Earth?

Makes me wonder. Avoid filing a flight path?

I thought the dialogue indicated that all flights were grounded due to the migration of the space creatures? My guess is that shuttles, both Starfleet and otherwise, are registered, but the loophole was that the Phoenix was seen more as an amusement ride for short bursts in near-space? Just guessing.

This series is beyond me. I don't understand why so many enjoy it so highly and squee over so many aspects of it. I mean... Really? What about this is "good." I just see constant references, dumb humor, and loud fast-talking characters.

If you like it, fine, but I don't get what there is *to* like.

Personally, I like referential humor. Also, out of ALL the series in the NuTrek franchise, it is more in synch with the TNG era than even PIC, which, unfortunately, is too "dark" for my taste.

Weirdly, I suggest overthinking it more because it's some kind of fascinating ideas from the idea this is the equivalent to Colonial Williamsberg. Which is to say this is a VERY OLD theme park and not a particularly successful one by the looks of it with its lame playground and food stands. This is a place that undoubtedly predates holodecks and kinda lame even in-universe.

A place kept in business by school trips and being state heritage.

Counter-argument: theme park aesthetics or not, what would FEEL real: a holo-simulation or going up on a nearly authentic replication of the first Terran war flight? Also, whose to say that there aren't any old-school space enthusiasts who wouldn't have a DIY kit built of pre-24th century space tech? Certainly, there is Tom Paris' fascination for 20th century technology, just like we have old car/plane/boat/etc enthusiasts running around in old school tech.

Regarding "beaming": people seem to forget that celestial bodies are constantly moving, and rotating, so "beaming in a straight line" would prove to be a disaster. Also, whose to say that security won't detect a transport beam in the HEART of Federation space?

Same reason Picard valued the artifact over a simulation. Some things are not going to be close enough to be good enough.

Well it is a direct continuation of the timeline post-Voyager and Nemesis....

I will echo what others have said. Things got wrapped up a little too neatly. I hope we aren't back to shenanigans of the week until the end of season 3. But I fear we might be.

Love everything related to First Contact.
