What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Starfleet weapon set in 2153: Phase cannons (basically phasers) and photon torpedoes.
Starfleet weapon set in 2260: Phasers and photon torpedioes.
Starfleet weapon set in 2364: Yup, STILL phasers and photon torpedoes.
They just updated the Effective Photon Torpedo Yields & wattage outputed by each phaser beam.

They've also updated shield capabilities and added ablative armor. Speed and mobility of ships. Phaser strips instead of cannons or what ever type of emitters used before strips. Now they've gone back to phaser cannons. A beam weapon that can keep a lock and fire on an enemy ship is better than what they had before. What comes after direct energy weapons? They should have heavy graviton beams, like Geordi mentioned in BoBW. They were projected at 18 months. They should be around now. Perhaps phasers became a generic term like cannon or gun, The Enterprise E's phasers could be heavy graviton beams. Just my $0.02.

None of that phaser/torpedo yield nonsense means anything. Photons are meant to be infinitely more powerful than nukes, but they're never ever depicted as such. Kirk and friends walked away from a photon torpedo in STV. There are probably similar examples in other Treks.

And across every era and show, they work exactly the same way. You could argue they haven't changed a bit.

Don't forget that Shields / Defenses has increased over time as well.

What gives Nukes alot of it's power is the Atmosphere that it detonates in and suddenly expands, compresses, and creates a huge shockwave in. Then there's the radioactive fall out and spread.

The same with photon torpedoes or any other massive explosive in atmosphere.

That Compressed Air Shockwave does a HUGE amount of the damage just by compressing the air near it and sending it outwards.

In space, when you have no medium to compress other than the raw energy itself, the effects are lower unless it's detonated near other solid material or shields.

The Enterprise E is an ugly ship. Enterprise D felt like a ship of exploration . E was too militaristic and looks like it was on steroids . I DON'T like how the deflecter dish/ star drive section connects to the saucer.(including the lack of a neck). Its also too horizontal looking .

I dont mind the occasional "Bad ass" looking design, but the flagship should exemplify the peaceful outlook of what the Federation stands for

We don't know the Enterprise-E was the Federation flagship though. Up until an SNW retcon the only Enterprise ever explicitly referred to as such on screen was the Enterprise-D.

My understanding is that for a while, the Lollipop was the flagship. It's a good ship.
