I didn't have anything else to do, so I decided to check out the current season of Big Brother hoping that I could get up to speed before tonight's big 2-hour episode, but that's not going to happen; so what I might end up doing is watching the odd-numbered episodes and then finding time to fully get caught up before next Sunday.

The main thing you need to know is that one of the houseguests left for "personal reasons" that are probably due to anxiety or some other medical issue. Both people on the block right now are unpopular for valid reasons.

I remembered that I could DVR the new episode to watch later, which would give me more time to try to catch up organically, so that's what I'm doing (and am currently on Episode 4, which leaves two more to go).

Better hurry, since it starts in half an hour.

Having taken the plunge for the first time, I've got to say that Big Brother is what you end up with if you cross Double Dare, Wild & Crazy Kids, What Would You Do, Candid Camera, and a talk show, and I wish I'd given it a try earlier because it's pretty brilliant.

And this is one of the saner casts.

Thank goodness Pooch is gone. Why he didn't get removed for sexual harassment, I have no idea (Joseph and Indy were clearly not comfortable with the BS he pulled).

I'm liking Turner a lot less now.

EDIT: Glad to see Taylor's still on the eviction radar. She still doesn't get it that nobody among the other women gives a damn about her stupid pageant costumes. Hasn't she noticed yet that most of them could never possibly squeeze into them, so dangling them as "keep me" bait is actually not an incentive, but an insult?

I like the comparison to Wild and Crazy Kids. Yeah, that’s exactly what the comps are like.

But the recipe isn’t complete without mentioning Survivor. Since season 2 I’ve always just seen it as comfy Survivor with shallower people.

So I'm guessing you think she tried to get Nicole to quit and Daniel was totally justified in his barking at her.

I lost a LOT of respect for Daniel there. And Nicole. Taylor comes to Nicole in a moment of genuine empathy because she thought maybe she got cancer news about her mother and they accuse her of passive aggressively emotionally sabotaging her.

Taylor’s not my favorite obviously, but the cruelty directed at her is completely unjustified.

They are just a collection of angry people that will blame the edit or something for how they were portrayed.

Okay, I'm guessing that I either slept through something on Sunday or this is about tonight's episode? It's not on for over 90 minutes yet. It isn't even 7:30 here.

We don't all live on EDT. :vulcan:

My guess is that @JirinPanthosa was spoiled by the LIVE Feeds.

Okay, now I've seen the episode.

I don't like Taylor. At all. Yes, I get that some of what happened is due to someone misunderstanding or paraphrasing incorrectly. But Taylor isn't innocent in that.

She came on that show ready to strut and show everyone her best "I'm BETTER than you" attitude, and even as recently as a few days ago she STILL doesn't get it that literally nobody cares about her pageant clothes or is impressed by that. At least she isn't giving the impression of trying to have a "wardrobe malfunction" this time.

So I'm guessing that you have forgotten that we're not even remotely in the same time zone. What's over for you hasn't even started here, so how about saving your snark until I've actually seen the episode, 'k?

Can we all just respect spoilers and tag stuff that hasn't aired yet?

I got spoiled on the Taylor controversy stuff that aired last night because I chose to go looking on Wikipedia, but that's a different situation than openly discussing stuff that not everyone might have seen happen yet.

I don’t watch the feeds, I posted while I was watching it on TV. That’s why I was careful not to mention the outcome, just details of the fight.

Are vague social details that don’t mention comps or evictions really a spoiler? And if you know you’re in a different time zone can’t you just not click on the topic in the 3 hours in between? Just like you wouldn’t click on a Stranger Things thread until you’ve watched it.

Taylor’s not my favorite player but I think you’re mistaking miscalculated attempts to be nice that were misinterpreted for actual negative behavior.

Given the context we have now, she is a person with a deep inner hurt with defense mechanisms that get taken the wrong way. Whose genuine attempts to reach out and show empathy are landing wrong because of a lack of social skills.

Waiting 24 hours to post who wins the Veto or gets booted is fair. We're all in different time zones and in at least 2 different countries.

But expecting everything to be spoiler-tagged is not reasonable. It's also unreasonable to just assume everyone's seen everything earlier.

The show is on at 9 pm MDT for me, which is 2 hours later than Eastern time. So if someone's seen it earlier, do NOT snark at me about something I could not possibly have seen yet, 'k?

The spoiler situation could have been much worse, guys. Last year for The Handmaid's Tale, someone blabbed the ending, including multiple regular character deaths, as soon as HE finished watching them, not giving a fraction of a damn that while he was able to see these first 3 episodes of the season immediately, others hadn't - and Canadians are always lagging in what we're allowed to watch of that show. He blabbed about these character deaths a WEEK before we were allowed to see that episode here.

So I won't say who wins comps or who gets evicted unless someone else has referenced it first. I just ask that these not be mentioned until 10 pm Mountain (8 pm Eastern) unless spoilered.

Talking about other things going on is fair, I think, though it's not reasonable to expect everyone to have seen it.

I have no idea what Stranger Things even is.

Even though Daniel and Nicole treated Taylor like crap, I'm still oddly interested in seeing how far they get in the game.

I'm also interested in seeing if this "Leftovers" alliance can succeed in their plan to shake up the game, even though I only really like four of its members individually (Turner, Kyle, Brittany, and Michael).

Taylor started out on both wrong feet with her overly-sexualized, barely-legally-covered Pageant Girl persona that screamed "LOOK AT ME, I'M BETTER THAN YOU!" attitude that was an instant turnoff for the other women. She was so obnoxious about it not just in the first episode, but was still doing it days later... even on eviction night when she prattled on about "if I leave, my clothes are going with me".

Honestly, why would she keep harping on her damn clothes? She's tall and skinny and most of the other women wouldn't have a hope of fitting into these outfits even if they wanted to. She must realize that, but she keeps dangling them as a showing-off behavior. Maybe guys don't see this, but it's a fact that much of the time, women don't dress up to please guys. They do it to show up other women as a way of out-competing them for both attention and to say, "I/my SO can afford this. It's prettier/more expensive than yours, so that makes me BETTER than you."

That's the vibe I got from Taylor the first night and an impression like that is going to be damned hard for her to overcome both with some of the viewing audience and with her fellow housemates.

She needs to read the room better - pay attention to body language and voice... all the subtle nuances that should tell her if people are sincere and not just saying what they know she wants to hear. If she'd spent more time at first trying to get to know the women rather than putting on a barely-there outfit and draping herself on the pool table in sexualized poses, the other women might take her a bit more seriously.

I'm not discounting her diary room speeches. Maybe if she said some of this to the other houseguests, they might begin to regard her in a more favorable light. I know deception is crucial in this game, but when you start out with a shallow fake persona, people are going to assume that's all you are unless you get over it and start acting like a real person.

I'm not impressed with Daniel and Nicole. I'll admit that he's entertaining at times, and he had a point about Taylor apologizing. But he and Nicole are not willing to give Taylor the chance that she's beginning to realize she needs to take, to come across as a real person, not her pageant persona.

Right now, I like Michael and want him to win. He seems pleasant and not cruel to anyone, and has done very well in the Veto competitions.

Turner... okay, he's cute in a weird two-toned way. But his obsession with Pooch is making him unlikeable. I wonder how soon he's going to turn on Jasmine.

Kyle doesn't give much of an impression. Maybe later, but so far all I get when I see him is being reminded of the guy who played teenage James Potter in the Harry Potter movies (hairstyle and glasses, most likely).

Brittany is beginning to be annoying - not for what she's said, but for her facial expressions (shallow, yeah, but that's my current impression).

As for the others... Jasmine, just shut up. Don't speak. High-pitched, squeaky voices just irritate the hell out of me.

Speaking of Jasmine, here's a question: Does that wheeled contraption she's using to get around really squeak like that, or is it just a sound effect that's been added?
