If you didn't give a rat's ass you wouldn't be posting so much about how persecuted you feel when people tell you that CBS states that all current Star Trek streaming shows take place in the prime universe.

    What a fun finale.
I watched Balance of Terror on TOS again after it. Nicely done.

This is becoming my favorite trek series after TNG.

Except I don’t feel persecuted. I don’t care what people think. And no one should care what I think. I was pointing out the discrepancy of another poster here who made the claim that no one here is telling anyone how to enjoy their fiction. If you actually bothered to go back and read that instead of being smarmy, you would have known that.

It was a flawed premise. It forced the story to make Pike look bad. The "real" Pike (one not hobbled by the premise) would've quickly adapted to the situation. It's a weird story that demonstrates how a character from another show handles a situation better than the show's own main character who bumbles through the situation. That's the real problem with this episode.

But it does serve its purpose of laying to rest the notion that Pike can/will attempt to change his fate. There won't be any more stories where Pike tries to get out of it.

Everything I described was shown onscreen during the episode. Pay attention.

Paying attention would show that almost none of what you described was shown onscreen during the episode. But it is fascinating that you interpret the episode in this way.

From your lips to God's ears, but them laying the notion to rest does not ensure there won't be any more stories of him weaseling out of it. The end of Discovery season two already laid the notion to rest, both with Pike accepting the Klingons' assertion that taking the time crystal renders the fate it showed him inevitable, and then in the season finale where he tries to disarm a torpedo on the grounds that he already knows with certainty how he's going to die, and it's not disarming a torpedo, which made it pretty clear he really believed it.

At first, we had a polite discussion and came to different conclusions. That was cool. You made actual points and observations based on the episode. We don't need to agree, but it was an honest discussion.

    Now you're being a dick.

It's fine for us to come to different conclusions. But don't claim that the events I described weren't in the episode. That's a bad look for you and it's a dishonest way to discuss something. You're just sticking your head in the stand to avoid dealing with story elements that don't support your viewpoint.

What I described are clearly all in the episode. I'm sorry they contradict your thoughts, but it's all there. I didn't hallucinate it. Denying their presence makes you look bad. In fact, it lowers my opinion of you drastically. I enjoy discussing differences of opinion, but not with people who deny reality.

I think they felt the need to lay it to rest again on SNW. Although, I probably should've said, there "probably" won't be any more stories in that vein. Indeed, that appears to be the major intent of the episode. And it's not really in character for Pike to weasel out of an agreement.

But you're correct. Who knows for sure!

You have yet to provide details supporting your position about Pike's actions and inactions. I've already provided specific details from the episode refuting your statements.

Simple solution is for Pike to clone himself or make a robotic simulacra of himself and send the clone to get disfigured.
We already have near human looks a likes as evidenced by Gen Dynamics Labs robots etc so in 24th century it would be a cinch to do same.

It's the nonstop quips and one-liners that drive me up the wall.

Apart from everything else once again a look at how UNPROFESSIONAL starfleet officers are in nutrek. “Take us in closer.” “First date or third date?” WTF does that even mean? Can you imagine what the actual Captain Pike would have said to that? Actual Captain Picard would make his displeasure known quite quickly. The current John Luck Pikard would have no idea what was going on at all though.

Pike: "Man, those first days serving....seeing a woman on the bridge. I just wasn't used to that." Several Months Later..... Pike: "Umm....did all the men quit? Spock, your analysis." Spock: "Hmm...We appear to be in a Kurtzman Anomaly, sir. It's causing a lot of women to suddenly appear. Some are even identifying themselves as non-gender, binary, lesbian, and other. Looks like we've been in it for a few months now." Pike: "Well....I'm already used to it.....can't really complain. Surrounded by beautiful women. Alright, log it, and set a course. Wait....you have a sister now? I remember, you told me that you didn't, but now I suddenly felt like I was talking to her." Spock: "Hmmm.....I didn't, but now I do too.....it appears I have two memories now, sir. She.....cried a lot. She behaved illogically." Pike: "Another effect from the anomaly?" Spock: "It appears so." Pike: "Phew.....let's hope we can make it through this. I'm enjoying this command." Spock: "I like science." Pike gives an odd look at Spock.

Sure fans of snw would disagree (that's all they do, usually with no basis for their argument) but Ortegas is just a weird character. And like many modern trek characters, never acts like a professional or an adult. It's one thing to have characters do or say funny things from time to time, that's part of being human, but she never acts like a real person does. But this is yet another video that shows how huge a mistake it was to designate modern trek as being in the same universe/timeline as the rest of trek. It doesn't even try to be, so why not just go ahead an say it was never meant to be? I actually enjoyed the alternate timeline movies, despite their issues, because they were alternate timelines which made playing with character traits, ship/technology designs kinda fun. Discovery and SNW just say "fuckit, we're doing what we want to do and you all just have to accept that they fit in because we say so.

You’re mistaking real life for TV.

“First date or third date?” isn’t really that hard to decipher. Respectable distance or real close.

 Sailors in the Navy IRL say even more risque things to each other, of all ranks and grades. Remember Tailhook? Eh... Maybe you don't...
