I hope this doesn't become true but if it does then the writers have turned the backstory of Kirk in the original series upside down.

Kirk says he met Pike when he was promoted to Fleet Captain in “The Menagerie”. Then goes on to explain Spock’s history with him.
It is pretty clear author intent was that the two didn’t know each other.
Does Kirk not meeting PIke until he becomes Fleet Admiral matter? Does it change Star Trek in any way that is consequential? No and no.
I don't view these as pure reboots…
Nah and nah.It is overwriting others work for no reason other than a lack of creativity. If they can’t play in the sandbox as presented then they should go create their own.
More likely a handful.Screenrant likes to frequently throw speculation articles out there. You could possibly look at them as almost editorial pieces, but it's still basically just "this is what I think could (or should) happen" stuff.
Take with a grain of salt.
But he isn't wearing Enterprise insignia.I doubt it. There’s a season two pic out there with Kirk and La’an (her in a red tunic) in it he looks to have captain’s stripes.
But he isn't wearing Enterprise insignia.
Why would Kirk take a demotion, even if temporary?
Would it? Maybe the interpretation of a line or two. Kirk may not be as close to Pike as Spock and less likely to go along with Spock's plan. No one on the Enterprise seems to be aware of Pike's fate, even though there has been sub-space chatter about it for months. Given Spock's other actions, it's easy to assume that Spock has blocked any mention of Pike in the Enterprise's comms until the time was right.Kirk should not have any relationship with Pike, as it would alter The Menagerie, non trivially.
He's being referred to as "Lt. Kirk" in interviews with writer/producers.Is Kirk even a Captain right now? I thought that the Enterprise was his first command, and he gets it when Pike leaves. He was a Captain in the alternate future, because he was obviously a Captain during the time Balance of Terror takes place, but in the "present" of SNW he's almost certainly at least a few years away from being a Captain.
To be clear, I do not want Kirk to serve on the Enterprise at all prior to becoming Captain, I'm just saying that I don't think his rank at the time of SNW is the problem.
He's being referred to as "Lt. Kirk" in interviews with writer/producers.

Although, this is confusing since he's wearing captain's strips in the on location pics taken by bystanders. But maybe they'll address that.

In any case, it'd make far more sense to have him be LCDR Kirk, someone who's had at least one small command under his belt. So he's already on his way to captain... since supposedly he rose through the ranks quickly.
