Pike: Una, normally I'd fight tooth and nail to get you out of jail, but that would get me kicked out of Starfleet and turn Spock into a vegetable and end the Federation in a war against the Romulans. So, too bad for you.

Una: What? Chris you scumbag! I'll see you burn in hell for your cruelty!

(Number One later escapes from jail and sabotages the cadet ship while Pike is on inspection, causing his accident)
Because we all know every culture on earth has the same beliefs
Monks of Kahless. Monks of Kahless. Literally the people who defined the Klingon warrior belief system. I never said Klingons only have one culture. But the episode specified the time crystal came from the monks of Kahless! I said that in my first post on the issue! It's in the episode!

As for small universe syndrome from in trek.. Just look at the kelvin movies.. Everyone is on the ship..

Heard monster maroons for.. Decades? Been a long while.

Maybe they take issue with Pike trying to dodge his fate and passing it onto Spock. Preventing a war doesn’t even factor into it.

I think this episode ends the debate on the look of the ship and uniforms. The uniforns and the ship will not be any closer to TOS. What we see now is how things will look in kirks era. The original TOS era look has now officially been retconned.

It's still an alternate timeline. Pike just decided to skip the refit but Kirk didn't.

Anyone think the dating of the accident is a bit wonky? They made it 6 months before Balance of Terror, which itself is before Menagerie in production order? I know Mendez said there was "subspace chatter for months" but I assumed 2 months not over 6.

I just love how the Romulans outsmart both ships and flip the bird (of Prey) to the Farragut as it tries to get in back of it. The Commander is the sorcerer this time around! Great way to raise the stakes.

I hate time travel.

I guess the only way to interpret this is Pike has some future role to play that involves him being on Talos IV. Yeah, they made this episode give you the message that Spock was important, but it probably is something they do together afterwards. Future Pike said all the future's where Pike avoided the accident affect Spock's future, so by that logic Pike does something on Talos IV that helps Spock in the future.

OK ... 10+

Fantastic episode.

Everything about the future Pike sees, makes perfect sense.
All the little details shouldn't be exactly as we've seen before because his avoiding his fate is going to make unexpected changes.
I've got no quibble with any of it.

Also, I'm glad They didn't have the actor playing Kirk do any kind of a Shatner Imitation, that would have been too off-putting.
What a great ending to the first season.
(waiting a year for the next, is going to be very annoying) :techman:

Possible. Maybe since pike was still in command he wanted things kept the same. He seems to have a lot of influence on tech since starfleet got rid of hologram comms because of him.

Future Pike's claims of knowledge of Spock's survival in the prime timeline mean he was shown a future even from his future of Spock's importance. As it is, Spock himself was almost killed rescuing Styles in Balance of Terror. Not to mention Spock outright died then got resurrected before doing most of his galaxy affecting actions (like the whale probe, preventing Sybok from unleashing "god" on the galaxy, leading the Khitomer accords, etc.)

It seems implausible that Pike would be given an entire rundown of a future that's not even his own. Even other Trek characters don't get this info easily.

Going to add TAS Yesteryear contradicts this episode. Spock died at 7 years old then and there was no war with the Romulans. Everything was just fine.

Furthermore Spock isn't essential to the Romulans' downfall a century later either really. The supernova would've happened without him.

Technically, it's only really a Time-Travel episode for Future Pike.
(who then winks out of existence when current Pike deletes the letter)

The crystal only shows what the future can hold in the persons mind who touches it.
Current Pike didn't actually leave the Enterprise, he only thought he did.

Now that Pike knows another outcome future. He can either except his fate, which seem he is. Or, he could bring James Kirk in as First Officer, base on that he knows the type of officer he is, and prevent both events from happening.
Also, by the sound of his voice, we know a certain Scottish engineering is coming onboard.

Am I the only one thinking Una is severely underused during the whole season of SNW?
There might be a really long game at play here. Una going rogue, then researching genetic engineering herself and using that to find a cure for Pike after the Menagerie. Might as well go all the way with Pike/Una now.
Oh.. Now Pike knows Romulans look like vulcans now...
Mendez: And you never told us! All these years and you never told us???!!!!

Pike: Beep beep.

Mendez: I'd have you suffer but you can't suffer any more than you are now. Oh and by the way, you have a new visitor. Name of Stiles.
