Just from the very small amount of spoilers I've allowed myself to indulge in this last week, I'm thinkin' this episode is going to be a 10+.

And Disco didn't even have to be that way. There's a wealth of stories in the bridge crew that are basically unused because Owo, Detmer, Rhys, Nilsson basically aren't developed characters.

What I'm and other had posted are just hope and speculations. There's nothing wrong with that.

And fans rewarded them for it. So, who is the more foolish?
    Who said there was?

the writers are more foolish if u want to call them that because with fans, they can easily change their minds. they hate something today the love it tomorrow and vice versa. whereas the writers, they wrote it, they are stuck with it and it defines them.

To quote Obi-Wan, "Who is the more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows them." See, fans prove they can be changed which means that following the writers all the time is the more foolish venture. Stop rewarding bad behavior and wait for them to do something actually worth your time.

Would you fire Anson Mount? Or keep him on contract for ten years or more?

He's a keeper, and I don't mean Talosian! Pike's story will continue for a good long time yet. In what form? We'll... let's find out together! After all, he's probably bored stiff on Talos IV by now and is ready for the next phase of his existence. Perhaps we'll see a glimpse of that tonight.

He's cured immediately after Menagerie and given a new command. The only thing is, what's the name of his ship? And how can the show go on without Spock who'll be with Kirk on the Enterprise?

How is it any different than the fact that the Enterprise C HAD to suffer in "Yesterday's Enterprise?" It's not. There's no "romanticizing Warhammer 40k" or anything else. This is Trek as per Trek's usual.

Anyway, I think it's easy to say that Kirk needed to be the person who was Captain during the Balance of Terror Events or bad things would have happened; just as I suspect that Picard would have been shit during the Dominion War on DS9. The universe needed Kirk there, and I hope that's the angle they play.

But lol, Star Trek has ALWAYS done this fate mojo, whether you have a hate-on for new Trek or not.

Yesterday's Enterprise was a bit over the top for me to be honest. And the namecalling at the end of your post is completely uncalled for. I don't hate new Trek, but I should be able to be honest about my opinion on their story decisions without getting labeled.

intrusting with mount because one of the criticism of this show is that mount is a shell of his former-self to when he appeared in discovery.

the reception of Mount here is, he is not much of a strong leader, i see that criticism everywhere from viewers, which does not surprise me because we know NU TREK love to play down men because that is the only way they can make women look strong.

I do agree that Pike here in SNW has zero authority presence as a captain. So let's hope this episode brings some of that.

Pike is an amazing leader and I'd follow him in a heartbeat. Not sure what Pike others are watching but calling him a poor leader is definitely not one of my critiques.

Keep Pike's story going or snuff it out to make room for Kirk?

Hmm. Tough one, that. Mount sure oozes charisma to carry the show for years.

I feel this misses a point or is making one that I don't follow.

There is still time in Pike to tell his story, and then hand it off to Kirk at some point in time (possibly Season 2, frustratingly enough...but I won't go there). So, again, not sure what the issue is when Pike has a couple of years before Kirk takes command to continue his story...

Is there anything definitively tying Spock to the Enterprise in the 12 years between TMP and WoK? Maybe he and Chapel jumped ship for a bit to rejoin a cured Pike on some new starship.

Spock was the first ambassador to Talos IV.

Show creators could violate continuity and keep Pike around for a good long time, or get creative to honor continuity and still keep him around for a good long time. The seeds of the latter may be sown tonight.
