Unless it's reinstatement to full cast member it still looks like a demotion. The news that Hemmer was always intended to die doesn't make this whole situation appear any better. It's like the show wanted to showcase their diversity by seemingly having a main cast disabled actor, only to reveal they never intended to accomodate him for the long run.

Yeah I agree. We also hardly got to know hemmer so his death didn't pack the emotional punch if he would have gotten his own storyline. I don't even recall if he was ever part of a briefing in the briefing room. I liked his character and killing him off so early was a mistake. If they bring in scotty I'm going to really be disappointed.

Why does it look like a demotion if you know nothing of what kind of role he could have in the future?

Maybe trying to divine other people's motivations based on the end result is not a good idea.

what trek show had long running love triangles? I cant remember because trek did really do that. the only love triangles I remember was star trek 2009 and TNG season 7 and i remember them because unlike what we have in snw they were not the status quo of what to expect in a love triangle.

in trek 2009, there was supposed to be a love triangle between kirk/spock/uhura but kirk never stood a chance in the first place and he backed off when he learned he never did.

in TNG they were building up one with Riker/Worf/Deena but Riker acted very mature about it. he even gave Worf his blessing to date Deena.

SNW love triangle is kind of very teeny booper and expected compared to those two examples.
(Darth Vader voice): The head canon is strong in this one.

Such a suit would be a nonstarter. You can't sue people for doing something similar.
Yes, you can.

Calm down. It's just a TV show.
Calm down. It’s called having a different opinion. There were no caps lock tirades, exclamation points, or insults at other posters in my reply. I gave reasons for my thoughts on the episode. Give yours—or shut it. It’s just a TV show.

Yes, you can.
Maybe in your mind.

But as the countless copycats of Star Wars, Jaws and Alien have shown over the decades, it's not worth pursuing unless you want to lose money. Only if it were as brazenly similar as Nosferatu, you'd have a chance.

Calm down.
I'm not the one calling a TV script "repugnant" or losing my shit over a story. I know it stings to be told that you're taking fiction too seriously, but it's not as clever as you think to repeat people's words back at them.

You seem to be the emotional one here.

Honestly, what is going on with you? Do you think you're your avatar and trying to defend a show you like? Discuss the points or don't bother me.

Your disposition is not one I find myself wanting to discuss the few you have made. And where does that get us? Barreling ever closer to WWIII?

"I know you are but what am I?" is probably the least effective argument. Perhaps you can address the reasons I gave you for why such a suit wouldn't happen rather than trying to pick a fight?

I'm just pointing out that you seem way too emotional about a TV show. "Repugnant" is such a strong word for something like this. People take fiction too seriously.

Your disposition is not one I find myself wanting to discuss the few you have made.
If "calm down" is enough to set you off like that, and if you interpret it as such of an insult, the internet is not for you. Instead I would suggest not taking things so personally. In short: calm down.

Stern, but fair.

Unlike many of the posters I’ve read here, Aliens is the only film from that franchise I’ve seen, so the homage/ripoff means little to me. Accordingly, this was a tense, behind-the-sofa outing for me. Hemmer’s exit was affecting and Uhura finding a home was emotionally satisfying.

One more thing about pastiche: not everyone is as familiar with genre productions as others. I saw “Balance of Terror” before I watched The Enemy Below and the beats to Taming of the Shrew were similarly familiar to me. I’ve found that the number of good stories is finite and so I simply enjoy the well-done variations on the themes.

Well, as I've said, he was in the opening credits, like every main character and unlike every recurring one.
So were Lorca and Georgiou, didn't save them.
I pretty sure he was announced as a reoccurring. It think he's the only one. The others are main, minor or guest.

What does one have to do with the other? They can only cast disabled actors if their character can't die? That's ridiculous.

Well Chapel will NOT be a new character. She is being reconditioned. Hell Kirk is a Mary Sue for heaven's sake. He single handedly beats the crap out of Khan who has ten times his strength. He is a male Mary Sue.
Jess Bush tells us in new interview that she is working more season 2 than season 1. She says season 2 will blow season 1 out of the water. She and Spock develop a beautiful friendship. I think perhaps Spock in TOS pretends a lot. He is massively hiding lots of things.
It is more than clear from episode 9 that he must actively walk away from Chapel's affection as much too tempting. Funny how when the Kelvin timeline paired him with Uhura everybody cheered it seemed. If they are so close why didn't Uhura know about T'Pring?

The term you're looking for is "Gary Stu", by the way, although it isn't synonymous (nor is Mary Sue) with an overpowered character.

You are literally picking a fight.

Oh? Like I love that I hate that that sucks totally absurd etc etc etc are any different. Reread my initial reply. There is no hysteria beyond that you are reading into this. Calm down.

Again picking a fight. If the internet is the way it is, look in the mirror as to why.

The Chapel/Spock thing is kind of obvious from my perspective. T'Pring looks down on humans. Chapel is a human. Spock is going to be as Vulcan-like as possible to impress T'Pring. Hanging around Chapel means her "human-ness" rubbing off on Spock and thus, from Spock's point of view, lessening his chances with T'Pring. So Spock cuts Chapel off in hopes T'Pring will accept him, leading to the situation in TOS.

The irony is that T'Pring was never going to accept Spock as long as Stonn was around. Spock cuts off whatever he might have had with Chapel in SNW (and possibly Leila Kalomi in the next season or so) for nothing. That's the tragedy.

You are literally picking a fight.
I'm just telling you that such a suit is extremely unlikely to succeed. How is that picking a fight?

Oh? Like I love that I hate that that sucks totally absurd etc etc etc are any different. Reread my initial reply. There is no hysteria beyond that you are reading into this.
I didn't say anything about hysteria. I suggested you should take the show less seriously.

Again picking a fight.
Telling you that you're wrong is not picking a fight. Your opinions are not sacrosanct.

You have been insulting and combative from your first and in every reply.

I didn't say anything about hysteria. I suggested you should take the show less seriously.
If I'd said Anson Mount raped my childhood, you'd have a point.

Telling you that you're wrong is not picking a fight. Your opinions are not sacrosanct.
I would have gladly discussed every point I made and we could have shared our thoughts in a friendly and perhaps mutually persuasive manner. You know, like what the boards are supposed to be about. Instead we got this back and forth.

Anywho, I'm out. It's hot here in Philadelphia, and I'm off to get some electrolytes and run errands. LLAP
