Was there any talk of creating a spinoff based on the Chimera (S7 E14) episode??

I have been watching multiple episodes so that I can complete watching the series before July 1 (Thanks for the approx. 2 week notice netflix, you BORGian BASTARDS!!!) Anyway, I was watching "Chimera", and I was thinking that it could of been a really good spinoff for the franchise - Very much like the ORIGINAL series of the 1960s. Was there any talk after it aired? did anyone write any novels based on that episode? Seems like a real waste of an idea.

Maybe they just liked Laas a lot? It does seem an odd choice, personally.
I'm wondering if the title might be an error, and Don means a different ep? "Another Changeling" doesn't strike me as 'a real waste of an idea'. Chrysalis maybe? (Just a guess based on the word. I'm not sure many people would want to see the Jack Pack over and over.)

Unfortunately the OP gives absolutely no specifics about the episode in question, which was why I asked why it would be so special to him that he felt it needed a whole series spun off from it. The most curious statement was about it being "very much like the ORIGINAL series of the 1960s," which I don't see AT ALL.

I think it had some possibilities... Laas, possibly with Odo, roaming the galaxy searching for others of the hundred, teaching them how to do useful changeling things like fly through space at warp speed... rescuing them if they're threated by solids...

No the only spinoff they had planned was the one about Bashir and Garak opening that detective agency.

Weren't they also going to do Young Julian, about our favorite doctor as a child after he'd been augmented, needing to learn to cope with being more intelligent than those around him but less socially aware?

Pity Young Sheldon got there first; what might have been!

It's a bummer that Netflix is dropping DS9.
How does “Chimera” resemble TOS? maybe Odo enveloping Kira in a golden haze is somewhat reminiscent of “Metamorphosis” when the nebulous Companion merges with Zefram Cochran, but that’s just a detail. Laas is a more negative version of Odo, but nothing like the evil twins of “Mirror, Mirror,” “Enemy within” or “Alternative factor.”
The only feasible DS9 spinoff I imagine would be sort of like SNW-- about Sisko’s youth in New Orleans, his first commission, marriage to Jennifer, Jake’s birth etc.

They could have done Star Trek Empok Nor, with Marc Alaimo as Commanding Officer Gul Macet; Michelle Forbes as First Officer Ro Laren; J.G. Hertzler as Security Chief Laas, Jeffrey Combs as Brunt, the proprietor of Brunt's Bar.
And etcetera and so forth.

Umm it would've been a SHORT series. If Laas and Odo had left for unexplored space, they both would've been dead in a matter of months from the Section 31 virus. The end.

Laas probably did die from it, in any case, so there's that.

Perhaps Odo realized and went and tracked Laas down...

hahahahahah. I'd watch that. ..and "QUARK! . FCA!" lol

....OK, I forgot about THAT point... OK. Let's say that Laas returned AFTER the end of the war (already suffering from the disease), and was given the cure. Learning that Odo is in the Gamma Quadrant, He decides to renew his quest.

No, NOT "Chimera" specifically, the novel/series would be similar in THe Original Series in that it was involved in EXPLORATION. Searching for life forms like him (them?) throughout the Galaxy. Encountering new species (and even some old ones) as they move farther out through space ("...It's a TREK.... a STAR TREK...").

EXACTLY !!! it would of been interesting to hear how Laas discovered how to create a form that is able to travel through space (Was it at Warp speed?), and see him teaching it to others metamorphs.

...I'm Sorry. I thought that you could use your own mind to consider the possibilities instead of being told WHAT to think. ...Perhaps some of these children have not been taught HOW to think for themselves.

...And Damar as The EMISSARY !

1. There’s no need to be rude.

2. Sorry, but you provided zero information in your OP as to why you felt that particular episode reminded you of TOS, or even any specific thing about the episode at all. And since other people in this thread also had no idea why you felt this way, perhaps the problem lies more with your lack of clarity than ‘children not being able to think for themselves.’
