I just watched the episode, and I'm a tad confused as to how Pike and friends got out of the cell the pirates were holding them in. Did he somehow convince the woman pirate (whose name I forget) to let them out?

Oh, and nothing personal, but I found Angel incredibly annoying. YMMV.

Yes. It's implied by his offer to use his people and expertise to lend her a hand in the mutiny that she accepted the offer offscreen.

To be fair a lot of Christian televangelists in the '80s had affairs with young women that had daring personalities. So, yeah, she totally tracks, especially if it's a younger Sybok whose tastes have yet to reach the "no time for love, time for seeking out the center of the galaxy" stage.
