I thought it was weird in this episode that there wasn't really any consideration if existing as a disembodied immortal consciousness or whatever would really be a good and positive life for his daughter. It seems to me like a lot could potentially go wrong with that.

That happens in Season 2.

I'm normally not a fan of Trek holodeck/costume/MU or any other sci-fi ways the cast get to play different roles for a day and this episode was no different. Hemmer was good though and nice to see him expand the character beyond cliche grumpy guy.
Boring episode rescued by a good finish although I was a little shocked that M'Benga's side plot ended so abruptly and we are (not definitely) done with his daughter already.

Perhaps they can do an episode where very few or no words of English are spoken and everything is told via subtitles one day? Maybe the aliens only know English as they thought that was the only language humans spoke, so they are thwarted by all the other Earth languages which they failed to study? Pike can do bad impressions of other languages which would add a comedy aspect to the episode, but he can still manage to communicate effectively just in a ‘hammy’ way?

I guess the problem with having 10 episodes a year is each one has to count, and except for the ending, this one didn't... Where's Captain Proton when you need him?

There is a lot to be said for the primitive 1990s cryogenic technology aboard the Botany Bay working. Of the 84 Augments who boarded the ship and were placed in suspended animation 72 were still alive and healthy 271 years later. Imagine how 23rd century tech could keep someone alive.

If one continues to assert that tech was from the 90s...

Seriously? The goal is to find the cure and then bring her out to implement the cure. But in the meantime, it's necessary to slow if not stop the passage of her subjective time.

He's already said he can't do that. Scotty is decades away from MacGyvering a way to keep some one alive in a transporter that long.

This is not a show moving some tedious mega-plot forward. They can do any story they like on a given week. No story is "filler" and they all count.

I have no issue understanding M'Benga but then I've been listening to different TV character accents for so many decades that I can get 95% of them with few if any problems. It's like deep Southern U.S. accents or really thick Liverpool or Scottish accents in the UK that sometimes have subtitles on the screen. I get it. But I very rarely need it.

I think we need to show a little grace to the people having trouble with accents. It seems like any given person will have an easier/harder time with a particular accent based on their linguistic exposure growing up. I personally don't have any problem understanding M'Benga, but I might have trouble with some other accent group.

The scene where he ran away was perfectly done and that stupid grin he had on his face the entire time. Lol. Remember he was being manipulated by a alien.

So this is something raised when the short character trailers came out, he is of Nigerian decent, he was born in Nigeria, but the accent he has in the show is actually not his real accent. If you search his name in YouTube you’ll see his interviews for his martial arts stuff and with the Trek after show.

He did an interview in this week’s ready room and he sounded the same to me

I guess it’s only like when the British Doctor Who is shown in America and no one understands what any of the actors are saying because of their accents, I bet most American’s also use subtitles in this case too.

12 and 13 gave me a few problems.

I had that problem years ago when trying to play Sherlock Holmes on the Sega cd. It was a point and click game where you had to watch scenes performed by actors in order to solve the mystery. I would rerun some scenes multiple times because some of those british actors accents made it difficult to understand what they were saying.
