Season 4 = Poor

I liked it to... for the last episode when they revealed the aliens. I just don't think it needed a full season to get there.
I mean, at least it wasn't Picard Season 2. lol
So, no one cares was...a joke? ;)

Also, I don't think either needed full seasons but I have thought that about most streaming shows I fully enjoyed. So what?

Totally disagree with OP. Some people just want to hate Discovery.
I think some people are pushing this non-sense because they simply don't agree with criticisms. If DISCO fans don't like critiques on the show they love, don't listen to them and definitely don't read them. If you like these Plus All Access things, then what does it matter what anyone thinks???

“Anyone with a criticism just wants to hate DSC.”

This is the way.

But let me add a corollary. Anyone who uses the above argument just wants to love DSC.

It has been up and down for me. For me, I have openly stated my preference for episodic over serialized, though I do prefer serialized character arcs. The reset button is annoying.

I really liked:
S1 first half
S2 first half (my favorite half)
S4 second half

I really disliked:
S2 second half (my least favorite half)
S3 ending

Meh:
S1 second half
Most of S3
S4 1st half

We decide w emotion, then use reason to reinforce our decisions. The past few years retaught me that. The ant, reason, thinks it is driving the elephant, emotion and bias.

My bias is quite apparent.

More importantly, what the last several years taught me, is that the emotions create a sense of ownership, defensiveness, and anger at the perceived slight of something we value.

What I'm learning with Star Trek is that the value is not in reason, but emotional attachment, something more important to individuals than I could figure out via text and forum postings. Not about criticism but reaction, good feelings and personal comfort.

Moreover, the thing that tied the first three seasons together even when the main storyline wasn't working is the core group of main characters. In season 4 they fragmented the main cast, putting core people in different places instead of together.

And got rid of Georgiou (to set up a spin-off that may never happen), wrote Tilly out of most of it (so she could be in a play, and possibly to set up the academy series which may or may not happen)

It's almost like watching a soap opera, a bad one that is.
My girlfriend isn't a huge Trekker, but I got her to watch DS9 based on her liking Discovery seasons 1 and 2. She enjoyed DS9. She enjoyed parts of season 3. She got bored in season 4 and compared it to a soap opera and quit watching. And her biggest gripe was why everyone had to be making speeches ALL THE TIME?

My family and I thought Season Four was a bore in compared to the previous ones. Then again, I wasn't that impressed with Season Three either.

My feelings for Seasons Three and Four are like my feelings for Season Seven of "Deep Space Nine", Seasons One and Seven of "Next Generation", Seasons One and Four of "Enterprise" and Season Six of "Voyager".

On the whole I enjoyed the story, but there was no reason to stretch it across 13 episodes. The resulting Padding was really aggravating.

Dollar Store Tony Stark was kind of random. When Tarka first told Book his sob story, I assumed he was lying, and kept trying to guess what his real backstory and motivations were. When the flashback episode confirmed that he really was just some asshole genius trying to go to a universe Dollar Store E.T. told him about, I was a bit disappointed. Still not as big of a letdown as Suck'all though.

I do like Gray finally joining the living, and hope his story shows us what exactly Trill Guardians do and how. (Namely, how the heck they get their telepathy.)

I'll miss Tilly, but I do absolutely love her character arc's direction. No doubt in part because she now reminds me a lot of my sister's friend, who grew up to be a teacher.

My favorite thing by far though about the season was C10. Finally some truly alien aliens, and an interesting speculative story about how we'd communicate with them. It's also long past time for "Star Trek" to exit the Milky Way.

It still kind of amazes me that they haven't had Gray dealing with the loss of his symbiont. You'd think that'd be kind of a big deal with Trill!

Oh well, at least (now that Gray is a Guardian) we won't have to sit through any more boring scenes where he and Adira just stand around and make googly eyes at each other. Adira should actually get something to do now that Vaguely Ninjalike Boyfriend is out of the picture.

I thought the cause of the Burn was somewhat farfetched, even for the SF-lite space opera that Trek is. Other than that, I was largely entertained by season 4.

I think it's more amazing that the writers seem to have "kind of forgot" that Adira has a symbiont entirely. Like in Season 4 they just have her play the role of the wide-eyed kid who doesn't know their arse from their elbow, when they do have centuries worth of memories banging around in there.

I mean, I know they reference it in passing in dialogue, but nothing about Adira's character actually references her being joined at all. It's like it was just a plot device for Season 3 and then they couldn't think of anything more to do with it.

I have a theory that Adira's memories of previous hosts ended up being transferred all to Gray when he got his new body. It doesn't really work for the first few episodes of the season, but it does work for the rest.

Seconded. I want to see that addressed, as well as just what Gray's consciousness being transfered out of Tal actually means. Did the real Gray's entire consciousness somehow get stuck to the Tal symbiont in the moment of his death? Or is the new Gray literally just the sum of the dead-Gray's memories being removed entirely from Tal and dumped into this synth body? Does Adira still possess any of Gray's memories, or was it a full transfer similar to the Zirocon Ritual (or whatever it's called) from DS9?

Also, what the hell happened to Gray and Adira's original families? Are they orphans or what?

I think it's more amazing that the writers seem to have "kind of forgot" that Adira has a symbiont entirely.
This also irritates me. Although to be fair, DS9 did this to the opposite extreme with Jadzia Dax, going on and on about the symbiont's personality and biography while telling us next to nothing about Jadzia. So far Ezri Dax seems to be the only joined Trill character with whom the writers really did explore the idea of two distinct entities being joined.

Interesting theory, but it would kind of be a retcon of Adira's being joined at all.

Basically, I really wish the show would start addressing what actually makes these characters interesting, instead of just treating them like a domestic-fluff fanfiction on Tumblr. I don't have a problem with the Stamets/Culber "family," but I'd rather Adira's story focued first on Adira's relationship to Tal before anyone else.
