You are engaging in either/or thinking. I can respect language and people simultaneously. (I am a person of many talents.) But, as been said, we venturing rather far afield here and I am prepared to let the matter drop as long as there are no further aspersions of my ability to respect (respectability?).

I said in an earlier post that I think too often people post without considering the lack to tone to their written vs spoken voice and it does seem like this may be the case with your initial posts.

If that is all it is then whilst we may disagree on the specific point then the grander scheme should be taken into account

One of the Pirates, I believe the one sitting at the conn when on the Enterprise, his forehead ridges looked very TNG era Klingon.

There's nothing either/or about it. If a person tells you they wish to be adressed as they/them and you refuse because of some plea to upholding traditional English that isn't even accurate and far too rigid for a constantly changing language, then you are disrespecting them, plain and simple. It costs you nothing to be polite and respectful to them, and it's not like the Language Police are going to swoop in and arrest you for violating a non-existent rule.

I'm going solely based on what you said and I quoted in full, so there's no misunderstanding unless you misspoke.

This isn't really off-topic (it does discuss something mentioned in the episode), but if it is, it's only because you made a point of proudly declaring you would not address non-binary people the way they want to be addressed. I'm perfectly willing to end this, but not as long as you continue to put the blame on others for not taking your comments the right way, put the onus on them for stopping when you started us down this path, refuse to acknowledge that you are wrong or will change, or won't stop yourself.

You can quote me, but doing so without indicating what I was responding to you lose context. But there you go. Actually, I comment a lot on YouTube videos so taking fire from my left flank is almost a refreshing change of pace.

It's Stonn!!! And his work-wife, T'Pring...

Sybok's back. Literally, it seems. I predict he'll be ruthlessly cheerful and laugh a lot. I also predict I'm going to love him for this quality.

Angel is an interesting and entertaining adversary. Full of mockery, but also paradoxically respectful of Spock.

Divide and conquer by dining and coaxing. Pike's culinary craftsmanship can win new members to the Federation!

God I love to see the playful side of a Starfleet Captain! Delta-rays be damned! Pike's Pirate-speak was unexpected and side-splitting.

I was disappointed in this one again. Jesse James Keitel's performance just didn't work for me, and the beaming away reminded me of the ending of Chief Wiggun, PI.

("Aw, let him go. I have a feeling we'll meet again... always in more sexy and exciting ways")

Pikes whole blase attitude to being captured and his ship and crew taken seemed out of place, even though he knows his own future, he doesn't know his crews.

I get they needed something for Chapel to do but making her into an off screen Rambo is an... odd choice. And we get a return of the classic Star Trek False Surrender war crime! Although she's a civilian so I guess she doesn't know better. Although why a civilian nurse would also have knowledge of the Enterprises computer systems to the extent shown in Engineering is another question.

I was hoping we'd see good ol' auxiliary control, but I guess it's cheaper to set it in engineering.

Spocks character arc is also an odd choice. It's like they are trying to speed run him through stages that took 25 years in the original run. Personally, I think they'd have been better off going the Kelvinverse route and showing him struggling against his human half & trying to be more Vulcan in this show, making his later acceptance of his human side and discovery that logic is not the end point of wisdom better.

I thought Kolinahr was a special, elite process above and beyond regular Vulcan control, that only a small percentage chose to follow. Here it seems like a ritual for all Vulcans?

Was that a Reman punching Pike and messing up his hair?

Pikes pirate talk at the end was a nice TOS episode throwback (the Captain making a joke at the end of a mission).

More Small Universe Syndrome with Sybock being Angel's husband who is in prison, but that's just how the show rolls:shrug:

How many pirates were there, that they managed to overpower the hundreds of crew members so easily?!?!

I kept wanting Spock to say something like: "we can reroute access to ship's systems to the Auxiliary Control Room and operate from there" but I was fine with everything being run from the Engine Room. Might as well use that TOS-like set with the projected background of the tubes since you paid for it.

I do hope we see Auxiliary Control at some point, though.

Careful. This is dangerously close to saying that representing minorities in fiction doesn' t matter.

I don’t personally have any interest whatsoever in watching a show just because it has a person from a certain race or with a certain sexual preference or gender identity. Quotas are boring, as are shows that spend too much time making sure they have the right percentage. I won’t stop watching a show if there are good actors from different minority groups represented either. Sometimes it can enhance the story. I think the actors playing Uhura and M’Benga are both very talented and fun to watch and also fit characters who are supposed to be from Africa. I’m a heck of a lot more interested in the story they’re telling.

I love the hell out of that engine room.

Auxillary Control will be three decks high on this version of the ship!

The ink on Angels's face is evocative of an eyepatch, isn't it?

Okay. Next week let's see a strange new world. Maybe a siren planet that eats starships but in reality is an ancient distress beacon.

Auxiliary Control appeared in the second season of TOS. Patience.

7/10.

Love Chapel
LOVE T'Pring

I'm gradually starting to dislike the humorous direction Pike is taking. I'm half expecting him to do some 3 Stooges eye poking and face slapping before the end of the season. At least give us one episode of him threatening to twist an alien's head off.

The big lighted, open triangular section behind main engineering with the huge lighted circle at the back is a reuse of the same sets from Discovery and La Sirena right? Just redressed (very well) to look different?

Or maybe it's an Volume Display like they used on The Mandalorian?
