I wonder if the creators of this episode read the 80s Star Wars comics with the Tofs.

I'd go so far as to say that Zeltrons are basically Star Wars Orions.

Its unrealistic representation wise per the population numbers. Its not accurate at all.

Who on this particular show is LGBTQ?
Pike is heterosexual, per his encounters with his captain buddy and Alora.
Spock is heterosexual, per his encounters with T’Pring.
Christine Chapel is heterosexual, though possibly bisexual, given some of her conversations with Erica.
Erica presents as gay, though I suppose she could be bisexual as well.
Dr. M’Benga is presumably heterosexual, though nothing has been said about where Rukiya’s mother might be.
Nothing has been established regarding Una or Uhura or Hemmer or La’an Noonien-Singh.
I personally assume that the guest star Angel/Aspen was written as mainly female, however the actor might identify.
Discovery has a gay male couple, a lesbian (Jett Reno), a transgender couple (Adira and Gray) and a minor character (Keyla Detmer) who may or may not be bisexual. That is well above 5 to 10 percent of the cast, the only series with that much representation. I like Stamets and Reno and find Adira and Gray tedious as characters. I care mainly about the stories.

I mean, Sybok is already a strike against religion but he's a strike against hippie religious cult leaders like the kind TOS dealt with and not organized hierarchical nationalist religions like, say, Bajor.

The parody of them is Kai Winn.

Sybok=Gullible and misguided as well as delusional but well meaning.

Kai Winn=Hypocritical, bigoted, and controlling.

Also, shockingly, it's possible for groups of people to not reflect strict demographics.
Shatner specifically said that Sybok was based off of televangelists as mentioned in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier - Wikipedia , which in the real world tend to base their support off of either real or invented connections with recognized mainstream religions.

I stand corrected.

Over representation of any group in movies or TV can give people a skewed version of reality in the real world. I prefer to view the world accurately. Here's a lgbtq article about that very thing.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/259571/americans-greatly-overestimate-gay-population.aspx

That's already been considered controversial and generally the 10% rule has been held by a lot of people. It doesn't help that many people who are inclined to same sex attraction are in places where that can be lethal or subject to severe social reprisal, including in (shockingly), America.

And this isn't "reality" because it a dramatic television show. Whatever makes the characters more interesting should be more realistic.

I wasnt talking about the show specifically. More about tv as a whole. How does Erica Ortegas present as gay? Nothing has been mentioned about her sexuality yet. With that said we need a Ortega episode or more screen time for her. She's my favorite character so far.

My first 9, not because it was a great episode, but because it's carrying the water for the entire show really well. And this is just the first season. Mahvelous! I won't go much into anything except a couple things:
1) I still believe that Chapel already knows Korby and they've had a relationship and she's not free to tell anyone about it. We'll see what happens there. That kiss with Spock was too passionate and T'Pring knew it was a first kiss (any woman would see that).
2) T'Pring's little secret smirk right when Stonn told her about the call from the Enterprise tells me she's already boinking Stonn. Search me as to why but call it some sort of writerly instinct. We'll see...
3) Spock throwing the pirates around like rag dolls made me grin so widely it hurt.
4) Stonn AND Sybok... loving the canon fodder here ;)

I'd pay real money for them to comment on poly relationships and t'pring to show her manipulative side.

T'Pring: It is logical for us to take partners to satisfy basic emotional and sexual needs while you are away.

Spock: It is also truthful to tell the other partner about such a decision.

I think stating she had an ex-girlfriend who was so furious at her casualness says as much that she's bi or pan.

Well, we know she's nonbinary but not her sexual relationships.
I didn’t catch that if it was ever on air. They’re clearly trying to give a vibe that she might be interested in being more than friends with Christine Chapel and Chapel might not be averse to that though she is falling for Spock.

If Spock finds issues with what T'Pring and Stonn are doing to Sybok (I get the impression that we're being hinted this Vulcan forcible re-education camp has some very dark aspects to it, i.e. like modern gay conversion "therapy" forced onto people) then Spock might break Sybok out and T'Pring, disgusted, goes straight for Stonn.

Yeah, it was right before they transported down. Ortegas reminded her that her last ex was not so accepting of her "no strings attached" philosophy.

The ex ws referred to as a she.

The original version of Sybok was far more evil than the Sybok they ended up with. He used his "Unicorn" horse as a weapon and at one point one of the adversary soldiers was impaled on the horn. Our final Sybok is driven and obsessed but clearly not all that evil.
