It's apocrypha for all I know, but I had a conversation with an S1 Discovery writer on another board and joked about whether or not Sybok came up in their writers room and they said they had a list of no-gos from the movie side of things that they couldn't use. But they could have also been mistaken and they've since left the show since they were only there during the Fuller-era.It was never a problem. That split in of who can reference what was entirely made up by the fans misunderstanding things.
CBS owned the rights to all Trek, even the stuff made by Paramount. All Paramount had was distribution rights and the rights to make their own movies.
Yeah, for the Big Sky casting news, the press I read talked about how it was the first network show to feature a non-binary actor and a non-binary character:Streaming Trek has gone big on representation in their casting -- appropriately so -- so it just struck me as odd they (seemingly) made an exception in this case.
But this I didn't know. I have read about her in connection to "Big Sky" and "Queer As Folk" (and watched her in the latter) and only ever seen her described as a transwoman. Then I checked her IG before posting and it only listed she/her as pronouns, so I assumed she was exclusively female-identified.

I've seen that she primarily goes by she/her pronouns, but is fine with they/them - the NBC story above uses they/them pronouns for instance.
But of course, that was also 2 years ago.
