I’m long past being a teenager but I really enjoyed this. I liked how colorful it all looked. The texting was clever but I think I missed some of it. I’ll keep a closer eye on it.

As someone who's grown more than a little tired of Marvel - I personally do find the films largely formulaic and uninvolving, the trappings different but the cores the same, and Hawkeye did little for me - Ms Marvel came as a welcome breath of fresh air. My only prior experience with Kamala Khan is the Marvel Rising animations on Disney+, where she's fun, but not the most engaging of the ensemble; unrealised potential.
On the evidence of the first ep, potential realised, and then some. Spark, humour, heart, wit, intelligence, beautiful visual touches, and Iman Vellani is a complete delight. The superhero show I've been craving, and I cannot wait for more. :-D

I started watching when it came out and lasted until the car crash driver's test. I just wasn't in the mood for another high school show.
Tonight I gave it another try, maybe I was more in the mood. I really liked it and I was engaged by the end. It's hard to do a new take on high school, but I'm liking her.

Random Thoughts: For five years of her life, Kamala Khan grew up with a world that had reasonable real estate prices in New York as well as people welcoming immigrants.
Small aside, but has there been any statement made by the showrunners regarding whether any (or all) of the main characters blipped, or whether they lived through those 5 years?
I get the feeling that with the Khans at least, it's an all of them or none of them situation because if it was otherwise I can't imagine that this wouldn't be a major factor in defining how they're all interacting at this point.
Seems weird that going forwards, pretty much every new Marvel thing that has a character old enough to have been alive for Infinity War will have to at least figure out who in the cast got dusted and which spent 5 years coping with the mass loss of life, even if it never even comes up in the plot.

This seems to be a faithful adaptation of "No Normal" and that can't happen with Kamala's life being utterly upended by the Blip like everyone else on Earth.
Ms. Marvel is a character I really know very little about--I enjoyed the first episode for the most part. Loved the graphic novel and doodle sequences, and the characters were refreshing. It made me wish the Naomi series was more like the tone of this show. I am hoping that we get a little more of an reason behind her powers than she just puts on a piece of jewellery though.

Right, which is why I said it's all or nothing: either she and all her family (and Bruno?) blipped, or they all live through it. If only one or a few of them were gone for 5 years, that would be a huge deal and we'd probably know about it by now.
I like the whole Kamala (and family/friends/culture) - part a lot.

Basically, I think her mother will turn out to be Quasar and have a Green Lantern esque origin.
Why after all should alien tech always land in America?
Curiously, they seem to be leaving the Inhuman door open in regards to Kamala's powers. They explicitly established that they're *her* powers, not the bangle's. I mentioned last week that one of the symbols looked a bit like the Star of Hala, so it could have originally been an ancient Kree devise meant to activate an Inhuman's abilities without undergoing the full terrigen metamorphosis. Since they were supposed to be developing the Inhumans as weapons, but abandoned it when they couldn't control them, a devise like this would make sense as an alternative solution since it can also presumably shut down an Inhuman's powers if removed.
When and how it got into the hands of Kamala's maternal family line is still a mystery of course, but one or several of her ancestors being 'Quasar' seems a good an explanation as any. Indeed there's already a kind of connection between the two (similarities between the classic Quasar & Mar'Vell costumes aside) since Quasar was sometimes referred to editorially as 'The Cosmic Avenger', and 'The Cosmic Avengers' was the name (also editorial) of a group in the comics that included Ms. Marvel.

Trying to follow along the story at dinner it would appear that Kamala's grandmother (whom she talked to on the phone and who sent the bangles) was the little girl that 'followed a trail of stars' to be reunited with her Father(Kamala's great-grandfather) on the last train out of India into Pakistan during the Partition.
Kamala's great-grandmother(Aisha) disappeared and was not seen from again or at least that's the story that Kamala's Father knows and Kamala's Mother has told him. The bangles were in a box of possessions that were Aisha's and Kamala's Mother and some of the community that knew them seems to think that Aisha brought 'great shame' upon the family and that belief lingered and is what ultimately caused Kamala's Mother and Father to come to America.

Really like the show so far - it's funny, charming, you get small pieces of a different culture and their traditions plus a bit of foreign history. The building mystery about that bracelet and her powers is also quite intriguing - it's obviously not remotely what all those gossip people claim and i found that funny and also part of the reason why i don't attend church services because for many "devout" people it is just the time to observe everybody and gossip it to death after service ( "Have you seen what she's wearing?" "I've heard that xyz.." etc)
I have a friend who i believe is subconsciously pushing away most foreign material, i.e. everything that's not central european by culture. She doesn't like Black Panther even before she's seen the movie, she doesn't like Ms. Marvel and she often rails hard against PC culture yet can never exactly explain why. We've had quite a few discussions about it and i have given up but it is also part why i like this show because it introduces different cultures to a wider audience - i was always under the impression that mainstream media has no obligation to teach people but why not use its considerable power to show people there's more to this world than just western culture.

That's not my point. Obviously it happens and that it should not be happening. My point is that one and half episodes in, they spread a net out across all Muslim places of gathering and worship based off zero intel other than some tween's "maybe" comment as to who the new hero could be.
My point is that it's being poorly used here. I get "plot convenience" but it seems awfully convenient that she dawns her Captain Marvel costume and mere moments later the cops there there with an entire SWAT force.
Yeah well.. someone below surely streamed this and she was doing it for a a few minutes, so the DODC could have had enough time to redirect, especially the drones who can fly in a straight line and shadow her.
I'd love to know exactly how his tablet can tell where the powers are coming from.
