Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

Oh shit, yeah, I forgot about that! And didn't the Defiant also launch torpedoes somewhere from the aft region, maybe in the cutout below the shuttlebay (they turned the bowling alley into launch tubes!! :wah:? Can't remember that one clearly.

It looks like the torpedoes fire from roughly the same location as the aft phaser emitter. Perhaps a pair of torpedo tubes situated near the hangar doors.

I wonder if the bridge window is just a requirement for all trek shows now. Like I wouldn't expect Doug to put one on one of his designs, but there it is. Plus there's Lower Decks which is basically a comedic love letter to TNG, also has bridge windows.

I forget the details, and he posts way to much to even think about going back to try and find it, but Doug did a post several months ago saying that he'd been convinced of the "logic" behind accepting bridge windows.

Re-examining the Excelsior II image, if you zoom in it looks as though the rectangle is indeed centred, it's just that half of it is obscured by sheen – which would lend credence to the "bridge window" argument.

I'm pretty sure that's the light grey of the internal floor on the near side, with a black bank of consoles on the far side (I interpret the patches in the black as LCARS displays). There was a plan bottom-left in the image on @Vale's post: I'm convinced that shows a central window in that position.

It wasn't very clear in the show, but here's a render from Drexler

There's also a matching "control tower" below it for the Shuttle Pods.

My impression was the phasers were actually on either side of the dome, the same spots where there are single-dome emitters on the refit. The torpedos also came from around the shuttlebay, but someone involved said that was a mistake, and they should've had it coming from the screw-hole in the center of the impulse deck.

Yeah I posted it here when he did, But it sounded like to me that he came to that conclusion fairly recently.

There's a little hole between the impulse engines on the Defiant (might even be there on the original TOS model, I'm not sure) that Drexler wanted them to use as the rear torpedo launcher but that memo didn't reach the FX team.

Coincidently, or not, that's where the rear torpedo tubes on are on the SNW Connie too.

Edit: It is there on the original studio model

There's also phaser nipples on the underside of the saucer

I believe they're only visible in shots where they're used. Implying they retract when not in use, similar to phaser cannons

The two dark spots? Those look like the torpedo bays. Just not as well defined as the SNW version. Here the phasers are all right around the sensor dome.

No, they pop out of the hull like the rear phasers in that GIF Vale posted, I've seen a non-blurry render posted by Doug Drexler, but that was several years ago on his old blog, I can't find it now.

But in the episode you see the phasers fire from them a couple frames later. I should have included that in my original post.

That's OK. They had the phasers and photons coming out of absolutely nowhere on TOS. Even the remaster is kinda iffy on those details, especially the phasers that look and sound like photon torpedoes.
