They've said a couple times since then that they're picking and choosing what they adopt from the new shows.
Personally, I hope they either refit the E, or use a completely original design for the F. But, then again, I’ve never played STO, so I have no attachment to the Odyssey Class.
Reminder: We've seen the plan view. Looks like the Odyssey with different proportions, bit like how Discovery altered the 1701.
That looks like a command battlecruiser, like the Geneva class. https://sto.fandom.com/wiki/Geneva_Science_Command_Battlecruiser
I don’t either. A ship as important as the Enterprise is not going to have an STO design relegated to it, even though there’s already an Ent-F in STO. They’re going to make it something new.
It would be simply a creative choice by PIC's producers if they went that route, because otherwise CBS had the final say in the design of the Enterprise-F and then made it licensable for merchandising. The fact that it is a STO design wouldn't be the issue if PIC went with something different. Anyway, we're all assuming that the new ship is going to be the Enterprise-F, but do we know that for certain? Aside from that it would make the Enterprise-F the third such ship with the name within four decades (yikes), it could be that the Enterprise-E is still in service and this is a new vessel with a different name. It is possible that the TNG gang moved on from the Enterprise at some point after Nemesis, and would fit the general sense driven repeatedly home throughout all of Season 1 that things aren't like they were during TNG. An Enterprise could still make one or more appearances in Season 3 of PIC, but it doesn't necessarily have to be this new ship. If anything, it would drive home that even with most of Picard's old command crew back together, this isn't TNG Season 8...
More than possible. After Nemesis, the crew had lost Data, Riker, and Troi, so only Picard, Worf, LaForge, and Crusher were still there, and then tie-ins and BTS material indicate LaForge left when Picard was promoted to help with the evacuation fleet, so only Worf and Crusher were still part of the crew just a couple years after Nemesis. It feels like it's unlikely for both of them to stick around for so much longer without anyone else from the family tying them to the ship (assuming they didn't make a strong connection with the TNG cast's successors). Maybe Admiral Worf is still using the (or an) Enterprise as his flagship, but I'd say it's just as likely to be a new character, or probably more likely than both, some obscure fan-service rando from TNG is captain, like Sam Lavelle or somebody.
My logic is that there was no reason to initially blur out the pic of that display unless that particular ship was the new Enterprise. I mean, why else would they try to hide it if it was just a random Starfleet vessel? And based on the first and last episodes of season 2, the Sovereign class has been relegated to ‘far background ship.’ So while it was the big thing 20 years ago, now it’s just fleet filler. I’m betting good money that blurred display was showing the new Enterprise-F.
I'm not really arguing the possibility of that, but it's also possible that they'd blur out Star Trek's newest hero ship even if it wasn't the Enterprise-F. Like the new Stargazer, it wouldn't be just a random Starfleet vessel but the Starfleet vessel Picard and the gang are now on in PIC. There's still quite some time left before Season 3 drops, so we'd probably won't know for sure--one way or the other--until a full trailer is released.
Regardless what they do, we still need to see the USS Enterprise. Any Enterprise. This is Star Trek. Edited: stupid autocorrect.
I would hope it is the Stargazer or possibly the Farragut. It would be fun to have them on a new ship and getting to play with the latest and greatest Starfleet tech.
I totally agree, and would have proffered if it was the Stargazer, but I think the leaked BTS photo confirmed that the Stargazer bridge set was redressed for the new ship (with a monitor display blurred to hide its outline). https://i.redd.it/yglovv1audy81.jpg
We never saw the Enterprise in DS9 or Voyager. Well we saw the -D in the DS9 Pilot, but that's it. And the TOS Enterprise doesn't count in DS9, that wasn't the present :P Either way, the Enterprise was never seen in Voyager at least, only mentioned.
Well, we saw A ship named Enterprise in DS9 for "Trials and Tribbleations." They waited until the 30th Anniversary of the Trek franchise and never showed the 1701-E in an episode but yeah, we got an Enterprise and as a central part of that particular storyline. That series was about other ships and a space station so ships commanded by men named Picard or even Kirk were never going to be more than a passing or one-time reference.
This is very nitpicky and I can’t say with 100% certainty that I’m remembering correctly, but I *think* we see the interior of Enterprise-E briefly in one episode of Voyager in the background of a view screen call with Deanna Troi. Not that fans were clamoring to see Troi’s office (or quarters or whatsoever it was) but I think, if accurate, it’s fun bit of trivia. I’ll have to double check to see if I can confirm & get the episode name.
