My mouse response slowed the %%ck down.

I reboot the computer.

No help.

I switch the usb port the mouse's wireless aerial is resting in.

No help.

I check cpu usage on the task manager.

No help.

I turn my room upside down looking for my other mouse.

No help.

I try the mouse on a different surface.

OOO?

I clean the mouse with a wet rag.

All good.

Grmmph, one of my machines has a H510 chipset, tried to install Linux Mint on it but nope, it was all hissy fit-ish and problematic, found out that the current Mint isn't compatible with the machine because that chipset is a tad on the new side, so downloaded the edge version of Mint which contains newer kernels and the like but still no go.
I've tried the new Ubuntu LTS on it and that one worked, Mint is based of Ubuntu and it seems I have to wait a while before that version will be ready, so for now the machine is put aside, yes I know, I could just install Ubuntu but I'm far more comfortable with using Mint.

(a whole bunch of links)

Don’t do this again. A forum is for discussion, it’s not your personal blog for you to just dump links without any further comment. Don’t do this again or we’ll have to issue a spamming warning. Comments to PM.

You can also try a distro with a recent kernel and Cinnamon : Ubuntu Cinnamon edition, Manjaro Cinnamon (community edition), Fedora Cinnamon spin for exemple.

^^ That's true but I've tried dozens of distros in the last 15-20 years and I've started to use Linux Mint as of version 13.X and I never looked back, it works on all my machines, they range from a Dell Optiplex 745 all the way up to a Ryzen 2200G and they all work flawlessly on it.
Of course the older machines use the XFCE version of Linux Mint but even that old Optiplex doesn't feel too slow running it.:mallory:

I've noticed YouTube is acting really weird for me today. I generally have no trouble with it, but several times it freezes everything just loading the page or a video. Like the page loads but the mouse freezes and I can't move it at all. There's no timer light or anything like that, and other websites seem fine. Only YT is acting strange.

I'm looking into updating my aging laptop anyway, but if this is somehow a browser issue with Safari, it's one I've never seen before. Any advice?

ETA:

Just randomly had the same problem on a few other websites, with the mouse freezing. No clue what's causing it. Time to reboot... :p

Reboot seems to have fixed it, so maybe it was a weird glitch. I tend to be paranoid sometimes...

When in doubt, reboot or use a hammer.. ;)

Was in a local hardware store on Thursday and the POS terminals locked up (seems to happen every day around 12pm which would actually make trouble shooting a lot easier). It appeared to be a DOS based but not sure if it ran local or from remote desktop/virtualised environment. That it affected both POS units suggests the problem was at the back end.

One of the cashiers made a comment about bringing a hammer and some-one actually went to get one until it was clarrifyed that the reference was to a portable POS unit.

Gamers use PS/2 ports because of it being faster than USB, I still use them because most of my machines have them and I've got a few nice PS/2 keyboards which are working perfectly fine.:mallory:
