Why bother? Mind seems made up.I'll stick with it though and hope it's the usual star trek 'first season is trash' problem.
Have you watched any trek before 2009? It has always had episodes like this.Wow this episode was baaad. The endless 'music', singing, ... and the drawn out 'figuring out communication'. Boring!
Same irritating, irregular, unnatural cadence as Discovery, too. What the hell is is with that? Like everything is abrupt, shallow and decided in an instant but then suddenly a drawn out, "We've lost contact with the ship. We're on our own" instance of repeated sentences.
Yeah, boring! Where's my PEW PEW!!??Wow this episode was baaad. The endless 'music', singing, fake-looking set (surrounded by christmas lights) and the drawn out 'figuring out communication'. Boring!
You're right - a lot of those were terrible too, from what I recall. This episode was pure classic trek. Weird alien puzzle and languages solved before the end of the episode.
Trek needs more pie fights. I've said it since I was a kid.

Right, not enough PEW PEW!!!!The Cage was unwatchable and so was Encounter at Farpoint.
Great book.I predict this is your favourite Trek story, and I claim my €5.

Exactly. Trek is being Trek.Have you watched any trek before 2009? It has always had episodes like this.
This episode was pure classic trek. Weird alien puzzle and languages solved before the end of the episode.
Some remarks/nitpicks:
- The scenes on the asteroid (& the singing) felt incredibly alien to me. Well done! That's The AR wall (invented for "Mandalorian") put to veeeeeery well use
- Anson Mount has a fuck-ton of charisma. The new Uhura was a fine POV character and I really liked the actress and her story this ep. Not sure about her being actually the original Uhura though, she seems more like a different character
- I get what they are going for with Sam Kirk. And I love "Guy Fleegman" from Galaxy Quest. But at the end of the day - it's just another legacy character in the crowd, and it also feels unnecessary cruel considering his later (canon) fate
