Or the file didn't mention any real specifics about her rescue. Maybe just a ship name (IE - ...found by the U.S.S. XXX...")

They lure in a ship to see the power of what they consider invaders in their territory.

Disco 2x05 "Saints of Imperfection". Pike says to Leland: "Last time I heard about you, you were up to your ass in alligators on Cestus III."

Maybe? The Gorn never really say. Kirk has a different idea:
Side note: "getting us and our whole crew to come ashore"? Huh? Kirk, it was five or six people..

We see a Gorn blink on the outside of his goggles (remastered episode of TOS), if that is what you have decided the Gorns' eyes are.

Of course, Lorca's Gorn skeleton has no eyes.

No, but if I hadn't mentioned them, someone would tell me that I left them out. They recently appeared in an IDW comic, along with their boss, the Mego Neptunian.

Well they are called Gorn and they do have tails.

... confusion. Wasn't she already his Number One, years ago from the Cage?

The Gorn looked good in the game. Everything looked good, but the controls were a mess :D

Perhaps you are confusing La'an with Una?
And that might be because it was mentioned that Una & La'an have a history.
(Una was an Ensign on the starship that found La'an as a child, in a Gorn lifeboat many years ago)

But just to help clear it up, La'an has never been a crew member under the command of Captain Pike.
(that we know of after one episode, but it's not likely)

And yes, Una Chin-Riley has been Pike's Number One at least since "The Cage". :techman:

I would be disappointed if the Gorn are portrayed as a human flesh eating monster species, which is what seems to be the suggestion.

There was a similar line in DIS
They aren't exactly like the federation which has been established, but I do understand what you meant. They are another intelligent race that has developed warp capabilities. Suddenly to reduce them to monsters who eat other sentient aliens could be a little reductive. They had a similar throwaway line in DIS where they said the Klingons ate Georgiou and it was jarring, more so because till now this was never portrayed as a Klingon trait. With Gorn there is not much canon established so continuity wise it is not a big deal. I do hope the Gorn are written as having more complex motivations than simply eating and using humans for procreation if they are to be the centerpiece villain race in this series.

Although if they remain true to canon Gorns should not be a major part at all, as TOS portrayed them as a civilization that the federation has not interacted much with at all.

So a thought I had. Is it not possible the particular Gorn who captured La'an and her family were in fact Gorn criminals and therefore not representative of mainstream Gorn society?
Eh? In that situation, these were Klingons who were cut off from the rest of the Empire on a derelict ship with no other food or means of obtaining food. The only source of food was an enemy corpse. I'd say eating whatever food is available to prevent an honor-less death from starving rather than an honorable death by combat is very much a Klingon trait.

The Kelvin Timeline comics did something similar when Nero and his crew had to eat Captain Robau's corpse due to the damage inflicted on Narada after the Kelvin crashed into it.

I adore the Gorn from "Arena". Just so cute the way he lumbers about, sniffles, roars, and sharpens that jagged knife.

Some of his kin might be infinitely more menacing, but I like to think they're not entirely grotesque.

And it might just be pointless, or rather background texture to a new character.

The message of too much of Star Trek is "We can learn to get along with others , respect them and live and let live, as long as they're pretty much just like us."

La'an: And then you gorn used my family as breeding sacks--

Gorn visitor: Can't you at least make the lies you tell to cover up your augment status more believable? You think we want to use you as a breeding sack? Humans are as vain as they are stupid. Maybe you're the ones who want to use us as breeding sacks! This is the most disgusting thing I've ever heard! Excuse me while I throw up! :barf:

You know, the universe introduced in "The Cage" was a good deal less tidy and suburban middle-class than the "Star Trek Universe" that fans have grown comfortable with over the decades.

Maybe the Gorn are a callback to that.

In that case, the more the better. :)
