Takei's Claims About Shatner

^^^

William Windom (who played Commodore Decker in TOS S2 "The Doomsday Machine), as stated in numerous interviews that BOTH William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy were 'counting lines' in the script, and trying to make sure that neither one of them had way less lines than the other.
Another liar?

Another liar?
Honestly, I believe him. Shatner, at this point, was probably very protective about his status on the series. Nimoy was getting the press and the accolades. The first episode slated to open the season was about Spock. Shatner also had less to do in The Doomsday Machine, really. Windom and Nimoy had the lion's share of the drama and conflict. So, yeah, he was making sure Kirk didn't get lost in the mix and Nimoy was probably trying to hold onto a meaty role for himself.

I don't disbelieve Ellison either. And even Harve Bennett said Shatner kept trying to inset himself in scenes where he didn't really belong in Star Trek III, but not taking anyone else's scene. Just to be part of more.

The Shatner/Nimoy rivalry is well known. The Takei Screwing is more of Takei's own problem.

A couple more of Shatner's serious dramatic roles after TOS:
Norton P. Chipman in "The Andersonville Trial, " 1970.
Paul Revere in "The Kent Chronicles" first miniseries "The Bastard," 1978.

Can we please dial back the slut shaming of Nichols re her relationship to Roddenberry?
Who slut shamed Nichelle Nichols?

I think the tone has been mostly anti-Roddenberry, though I wouldn't mind both shamings being dialed back.
No, he should be shamed, he was in a position of power and abused that position to fuck women working for him, he was a pig.

I consider Chapel a regular of sorts
:wtf: A regular who was billed as a guest star on every episode she did? That's a pretty broad definition of "regular."
(And remember that during the three-season TOS production period, for a time Nichelle Nichols had an affair and was sleeping with Gene Roddenberry himself, but even during that period she never complained about the supposed William Shatner situation.)
I thought that Nichols said that her romantic relationship with Roddenberry was over by the time she did Star Trek.

Martin Landau was listed as a guest star on every episode he was in during Mission: Impossible's first season. And he was in virtually every episode of that first season. :)
Yeah, true. And also Diana Muldaur on TNG and Heather Locklear on Melrose Place.

The difference is that those folks actually were series regulars who were getting special billing. Majel Barrett was a guest star.

Diana Muldaur was not a series regular with special billing, she was an actual guest star which is why could take another job that made her unavailable for the first few season 3 episodes which led to Gates McFadden's return.

Billing is contractual. Contracts determine position in the credits, often right down to the letter size and if other credits may share the same card and if so, how many.

On Bonanza the four co-equal leads had contracts which stipulated the order of the actors would rotate episode by episode, so every 4th segment each would be the in first position, etc.

Because the rest of the Lost In Space cast's credits were negotiated during the making of the pilot, when they added Jonathan Harris the only spot he could have in the titles was the last one, so to make himself stand out he was given a Special Guest Star credit for the entire run of the show.

TNG's opening credits for the main cast gave Stewart the first card, Frakes the second, and the rest were billed in alphabetical order by surname.
