Why do so many act like it's either/or with new Trek and Berman Trek?

85% of Berman Trek was watchable and likeable and had good story telling and had internal consistency...
The characters were likeable and someone you could identify with and had charm.
Look how amazing Seven was in Voy. A great character who was intelligent, st,oic professional ,dignified well spoken...
VOY was hated by its OWN WRITERS for absolutely no internal consistency and hitting the reset button for characterization as well as actions within the setting.
And Seven was infamous among the fanbase for her constant unprofessionalism, snark, and disobeying orders. Plus her undignified treatment by the costume department.
None of what you said corresponds to the show and I LOVED Voyager.

The characters were unlovable, and arrogant. The pacing plodded at times. The consistency was like Data using contractions-only when we remember it.
It had its high points but I would never have it at 85%.
Or, strangely, some of us actually prefer nuTrek to a lot of Berman Trek.when you can’t praise something you can make it look better by putting down something else.
I know many find that hard to believe but then people treat Picard as the greatest captain, when it's obviously Kirk.
She still is a great character.

The characters were lovable and optimistic. The pacing could be great. The consistency was like Data's cat poetry - delightful.
It had it's low points, but I'd rate it at least 85%.

I've tried but any sort of human warmth was layered over by elitism. Still struggling to get through Season 3.
So a Rios series of a no.. Darn..
I enjoyed it, loved the scenes with Q.

4/10 except Alison Pill decided to put the show on her back and bring it to 7/10.
I counted myself among that fanbase, and while I completely agree with the costume complaint, I personally loved her snark and disobeying orders. She wasn't starfleet, she didn't even have a choice to join the Voy crew, she was the only character allowed to somewhat question Janeway, command etc., and she was funny.
Yes, her being unprofessional, more ruthless, and snarky was a major appeal of her character.
To make an odd analogy, Namor was almost unique among Golden Age heroes since he started as a villain and was hostile, arrogant, and prone to temper tantrums. Which also meant he was unique in that he had a personality.
