He wanted love instructors and 3 breasted women, he would have loved it. Kurtzman does not need to learn a damn thing from anyone on this board.

I don't understand the issue with making Chapel a more well rounded character. "Oh but she's not like that in TOS" well damn sounds like TOS wasted her huh? What an idea.

I'm pleased to hear Meyers express a willingness to break with the original series in order to bring the characters and stories alive. That's vastly preferable to being precious with the details. I know departures and creative revisions bug some people, but to me it signals the way Star Trek has become a bit of a modern myth insofar as the characters have outlasted their actors and have gone on to exist as stories we retell in new ways. It's an exciting thing. I hope that translates into an excellent show.

Roddenberry had a similar thought, at least at one point in his life.

This Christine Chapel brings more to her part in two episodes than TOS was able to do with the character, ever. I'm perfectly fine if she never resembles that character at all.

The next Strange New World teaser’s been released, and as expected, it’s featuring Nurse Chapel.

Can’t wait to see Jess Bush’s take on the character, and how the seeds of future relationships (and perhaps a somewhat unrequited love) are sewn.

Firstly, I LOVE the actress they chose. Didya notice the resemblance to Amanda Spock's mother? I will try this one out for one season even after my disappointments with Discovery and Picard. Not loving the kinda adolescent writing I've seen in the trailers. We fans always get the impression that the writers are laughing at us.
Before the nits start. Nowhere in TOS does it state exactly WHEN Chapel joined Enterprise, only that she joined to search for Roger Korby. Since Uhura is just a cadet and Chapel has a PHD. she must be considerably older than Uhura. I'm also wondering about that "unrequited" love. Especially the "unrequited" part. Got a feeling many old fans are going to be shocked and dismayed at what they do with this.

Listen. Here's what I want to talk about:

That lingering eye contact between Chapel and Spock as she's turning away from him.

I might start shipping Spock/Chapel for the first time.

I've been a longtime Spock/Chapel fan... so welcome aboard. It's exciting!

also anybody notice also she's has commander stripes on her uniform when they showed her in the Jeffries tube? How can a nurse be that high up in Starfleet but not have her M.D.?

Chapel I believe, has a PhD.

You don’t think it’s a little strange to see the same trait spread across so many characters? Weren’t people just complaining that too many Discovery characters have become endlessly supportive besties?

I hope the show is great fun. I’m looking forward to it. But we can still think about it critically. Half the fun right now is to analyze and speculate.

I know it's annoying but consider how brilliant you have to be to get a spot on the Flagship of the Federation. Brilliant people are arrogant. But, for the audience's sake they should tone it down.

Not sure about the timeline on Korby. We don't know how long he was lost but Chapel was his research assistant. Perhaps she will meet him soon and they will become engaged. The story is so thin they could do quite a lot with it.

I don't think Chapel was on Pike's Enterprise, either, but they're doing that here. Safe to say they're not sticking to canon in all cases.

Does Canon, as in, the actual episodes ever state when Chapel joined Enterprise? I don't think so.
