Spoilers Season 3 Cast Announcement

It’s amusing seeing on Twitter certain areas of fandom saying that it’s not a TNG reunion since the “TNG writers” aren’t involved. Not sure who they are referring to exactly given how many writers worked on TNG over the years. The ones that were still around for Voyager and Enterprise were accused constantly of being out of ideas in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Maybe they want John Logan back for another go?

Oh my God. With that type of thinking, they should reject TWOK-TUC too.

See? It's like I've said before. They'll always try to come up with something. Seems like "If they're for it, we're against it" doesn't just happen in politics.

Happiness must hurt.

And lots have already made up their mind it's going to be awful because people on Youtube said it would be. I didn't know this until fairly recently, but a lot of people complaining about the new shows don't actually watch them, they just watch redlettermedia and other reviews/tweets about them and base their opinions on that.

My assumption is they are referring to Michael Piller's team of Ira Steve Behr, Ronald D. Moore, Brannon Braga, Nandar Shankar (sp) and Rene Eccheverria. There are certainly others who have written during the shows run ( Melinda Snodgrass and Tracy torme), so forgive me if I am missing any significant contributors, but Pillers team were a huge part of making Star Trek as many of us know it.

Those writers really helped grow TNG during S3 - S7, and it should come as no surprise they went on to create hits like nuBSG and The Expanse. I would welcome any of their involvement in any future trek, but wouldn't necessarily condemn any post TNG production that lacks their contributions.

I think the most important take away is that those writers were just as big of fans and critics of Trek as any of us, and they certainly helped contribute to the success of 90s trek as much as sir pat and the crew.

It is pretty wild that RLM made their name by ragging on Generations and First Contact(!) yet now hold up TNG and even Voyager as paragons of television.

A lot of their videos are entertaining and informative, but the Star Trek reviews are pretty worthless now. You feel Mike Stoklasa is just playing to the gallery for clicks. After repeatedly saying he’s done with Star Trek, he keeps churning out Star Trek content. I can’t think why.

He was also the showrunner of the show 12 Monkeys, which ran for 4 seasons from 2015-2018. I'm going through it now for the first time and have just about finished the first season and I'm enjoying it. It's about time travel :)

I've watched it too, it was great! The story will become much more complex after season 1, be ready for some remarkable revelations and plot twists!

Picard also mentions the Phoenix is in the Smithsonian, which is presumably on Earth still.

Could be, or could be an orbital wing of the Smithsonian Air-and-Space (like Udvar-Hazy is part of the air-and-space museum despite not being in central DC). Perhaps the (Star) Fleet Museum itself is part of the Smithsonian.

Can you name an actual time? I remember Dax commanding Defiant during the early period, and Worf serving with/under Martok at the same time. After that I can't recall him ever taking command of the ship. Was it off camera?
First thing that comes to mind is that he was in command of the Defiant at the beginning of First Contact when they were fighting the Borg. He was also in command when he mistakenly destroyed the supposed ship of civilians in "Rules of Engagement."

Yes! This is great news! Very much looking forward to it. I've enjoyed Picard greatly for the first two seasons and its original cast members. However, it always felt odd how the show avoided so many of the TNG characters. I guess this ties in with Stewart's (IIRC) comment that there would be a surprise involving the Enterprise this season. Maybe the finale will have some sort of hint about next season.

Something key to remember too, we don’t know how much each character outside of Picard is gonna be in the show.

Sirtis for example could only show up for 1 or 2 episodes. Not all 10.
I don't think so. I mean, it is possible. But you don't hype a TNG reunion, but then cheap out on it. That's bound to piss many off!

Let me get this out of the way. For all its flaws, I love TNG. It was the first live-action Trek series to premiere when I was able to watch it first run. The memories I have will last a lifetime. As I look around my living room, I have the TNG series and movies on Blu-ray, I have a Locutus of Borg figurine, the Hot Wheels Enterprise-D, the TNG comm badge hanging on my wall.

I’m just not interested in constantly reliving the past. I want to move forward. All of time and space is a huge playground, yet we constantly revisit the same characters over and over again.

We’re becoming the Talosians.
It's really just a chance to give the TNG cast its closure that it never got unlike TOS. This will be their version of The Undiscovered Country. I think they deserve it.

Agreed. They are making no bones about this. There's nothing coy about what they're saying. They are saying, in their ads, on social media, etc. that "this is a final, proper sendoff to the TNG crew." Terry Matalas even said, "these are not cameos." You don't hype the entire premise of the season as being a reunion and farewell tour for the TNG crew and then not use them until episode 5.

Nothing is ever over if there’s a chance to make money off of it.

And today I feel bad for Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora (Even though they basically wrote him out of Season 2 early), Isa Broines, and Santiago Cabrera. In 5 or 10 years time they won't be remembered for being in a Star Trek series. They became afterthoughts today.
And that's perfectly OK. Not everyone that appears on a ST series needs to be remembered for that part of their career specifically.

Welcome to Star Trek.

Like I said, it's closure for the original TNG cast. Things can end for that cast regardless of the money. I suppose TNG could be recreated in some format down the road, like TOS has been. However, for the cast, it is closure.
