Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

I made this call back in 2017 when discovery came out and with plenty of evidence, then they later admitted it anyway. Enterprise as an alternate universe as well.

I don't care.

Y'know, I feel about this series the way I did about TNG: It's a restart. Just a general housecleaning and refreshing of Star Trek. I don't think we talked about "reimaging" and "reboots" in those days, although I'm sure earlier examples of such things existed in practice, but at the time TNG just felt like it didn't connect entirely literally and in detail to the previous Trek productions and represented at least a mild rethinking of the property.

FWIW, since the idea that TNG doesn't fit TOS probably seems pretty weird now, it had a lot to do at the time with the overall disinterest Roddenberry showed in the styles and content of the three films that succeeded his turn as executive producer on ST:TMP, as well as elaborations upon continuity that had become widely known and popular since TOS ended (such as the Franz Joseph manual, FASA and others).

It's been repeatedly stated by the people in charge of Star Trek that all of the new series are part of the 'prime' timeline.

You do know this is all fictional right? Just because the Enterprise has been updates and they are using modern production values doesn't mean that TOS is danger of suddenly not existing anymore.

No, they're visible in the spacedock shot in the first trailer. They correspond to the overhead windows we see in several sets, like Spock's quarters.

So after seeing what looked like a two deck tall sickbay in the new trailer (in addition to the larger shuttles and Main engineering) I gotta wonder…how big is the Discoprise. I can’t imagine it’s the same size as it’s TOS counterpart.

It's about 50% bigger - 442m.

I think it is likely scaled up, not as big as the JJ Prise (700m+), but probably similar scaling as adopted by Doug Drexler (~480m/1,500ft) based on door widths, corridor heights, etc.

The original TOS Enterprise is 288m/947ft

Well remember the original crew complement was stated to be 203 by Pike himself in The Cage. It was suddenly doubled in all the later incarnations (430); but they really didn't do any changes to the scale of the model itself in 1966.

What's the size of the TOS ship?

I think this is probably the best way to figure out the actual scale, as opposed to intended scales.
