I have been wondering why Picard sounded so British ever since I saw the first TNG episode back in college in the 80s.When they claim the character is French and very proud of his French heritage; and has a fully French name and surname...yes.

Have you also wondered why the overwhelming majority of Star Trek characters who are not from America sound American?I have been wondering why Picard sounded so British ever since I saw the first TNG episode back in college in the 80s.
Aren't you a glutton for punishment.p. 51--We can talk about ICE in here, but not Tuvix! NEVER TUVIX! Tuvix is @Akiraprise 's problem.
And here we go again
The Monkey Highway?down the only road i've ever known.
How about another 10 pages of time travel?p. 51--We can talk about ICE in here, but not Tuvix! NEVER TUVIX! Tuvix is @Akiraprise 's problem.

Typical fan logic. Leaping from point A to ESure, and I think that is a sensible interpretation. I was mainly commenting the people being glad that 'and explanation' for the accent was provided.

Anytime I see a picture of Stewart trying to look smooth all I can think is.Did anybody else notice Picard's shirt? Presumably the one he found on La Sirena? Remarkably similar to the FC-era uniform, if a bit faded.

The Monkey Highway?
Find a new hobby. Then why you give shit about Picard's British accent?
It just America-centrism. Like in the first season people were finding Laris' Irish accent weird; she should have instead spoken with an American accent, which of course is the natural accent for space aliens!![]()
Cool. Instead of examining your potential internalised biases you can of course always choose to be rude instead.Find a new hobby.
Life is a Monkey Highway!
I wanna ride with Monkeys all night long!
Who ever designed the Universal Translator must have been from New York.Speaking of accents, I’ve always found it amusing that Deanna Troi has this funny made-up accent, but both her mother and father had American accents. Not to mention that Worf grew up with Russian foster parents who had accents, but for some reason he and his foster brother don’t have them.
ad nauseamI’ve been on the BBS since the early 00s. My first week on the site there was a thread in the TNG how absurd it was a French man spoke with a British accent and they should’ve changed the name and history of the character. It’s been talked a lot about.
