In my review, I split it up and it really only needed four episodes to tell this story.I truly believe this season could've been told more tightly in ten episodes and not thirteen.

Discovery in particular isn't good with the season long arcs too. I'm hoping they do more 3 parters next season rather that one big arc. And let's get them back to exploring rather than one big emergency that takes the entire season.Probably could have told this story in 5 episodes. I don’t why each season needs to have some Galaxy ending threat to it. Star Trek was always at its best when they did one off episodes about multiple things
That's my sense as well. This season could've been the end. Because it's not, it'll probably end next season. To be honest, I'm fine with that. I have enjoyed Discovery overall. It's a good series. Not great but good. Although it's really wound down in season 3 and 4. They never seem to have enough content to fill out the seasons. Time to put the resources into a new series. This episode could have served as the series finale easily. Which is what was probably planned just in case. I'd imagine Season 5 will be the end. Seems like just the right amount of time and with all of the new Trek in the pipeline they are gonna have to free up working capital somewhere.
Shrink the cast.If DSC does end at the conclusion of Season 5 at least it's been getting steadily stronger over the years. It has the potential to end on a note so high it earns its place of honor in the pantheon of small-screen Trek. But they need to keep doing the things they did correctly this year.
I hope it ends on a high note. But it has not been rising in quality over the past two seasons. YMMV of course. But it started out stronger and then declined starting in season 3. They seem to be running out of ideas to fill the seasons. A change is needed. If DSC does end at the conclusion of Season 5 at least it's been getting steadily stronger over the years. We'll agree to disagree then.NOPE!
Stamets must expand from his original research and stop intruding in to the mycelial realm.
This might surprise you, but I agree with most of your points!Shrink the cast.
Less guest stars.
Shorter season.
Less Book.
Needs a bit more Vance.
Good enough then. This might surprise you, but I agree with most of your points!
Smaller cast, yes! I like them but so many are just filler.
Less Book. I've lost all respect for him this season.
Shorter season, given the writing shortcomings, yes.
I don't necessarily need more Vance, but I do like his character.
By invading another species domain. Gross. That needs to be resolved before I treat Stamets as anything beyond mad scientist. We'll agree to disagree then.
I think Stamets name will go down in history as a leading man in transportation, like the Wright Brothers.
He's going to revolutionize the way StarShips can travel across the Cosmos.
I will say that DSC is the one Trek series that has shown it needs to tighten up its season-long story arcs and if we can keep the season to 10 episodes that will be a big help in keeping the story pace going and excitement in the audience. If you're going to play a long game then the fewer filler episodes that don't really pay off the better.
This season could have done in 10 what took 13.
Do you think Birds complain about our Aircraft that fly in the skies?By invading another species domain. Gross. That needs to be resolved before I treat Stamets as anything beyond mad scientist.
Perhaps. There is certainly research done regarding aquatic and avian life, so I would recommend looking at it. And we know the network is inhabited by sapient beings. So, yeah, it's a huge problem that needs to be resolved.Do you think Birds complain about our Aircraft that fly in the skies?
Do you think Fish complain about our Submarines & Boats that go under and on top of water?
We're just borrowing the domain, it's really not any different.
Just make sure to not leave anything inside the Mycelial Network.
Also: Book dies, then returns and both scenes have emotional impact and rewards. If you're going to kill off an important character and then bring him back about five or ten minutes later this is the way to do it.
Book NEVER died. He was transported off the ship (in time) but the transporter beam was redirected and held by the 10C who later re materialized him.
