I *really* don’t think they’ll mention Russia at all, as 1) this was written and filmed way before the war; 2) doing so would quickly make the series dated.
I’m cautiously optimistic. Let’s hope they can continue the momentum through the season. He certainly has a better grasp on the franchise. They should let him handle SNW as well
Must be an American thing we certainly dont consider it one in Ireland. But we are also famously fucking foul mouthed.Yes.
No, no, it's not an American thing at all. Damn wouldn't raise an eyebrow in most quarters anywhere.Must be an American thing we certainly dont consider it one in Ireland. But we are also famously fucking foul mouthed.
I still love that O’Brien could yell “Oh bollocks” because it’s not a thing in America, but the BBC cut it.Must be an American thing we certainly dont consider it one in Ireland. But we are also famously fucking foul mouthed.
There's a very old thought experiment about what would happen if you went back in time and killed Hitler when he was a baby. Everyone's heard some variant of that. Sure, you probably prevent World War II in the 1940s. But you probably would have gotten another World War in the 1950s, probably between the US and some allies and the Soviet Union and some allies (maybe a communist Germany that never Nazified?). And because of ongoing technological development that was happening anyway, it would have been a nuclear World War. The butterfly effect creates an unrecognizable history with one change. Our world as we know it, doesn't exist after that alternate World War, because the post-1945 international system was build entirely in response to our World War II.The only thing no one (other than you) has mentioned is that this feels like a direct climate change allegory - allowing the planet to die, keeping the corpse on life support, the shield (cosmic rays, artificial atmosphere etc).
It feels so on the nose! My idea is that the ecological disaster prevents the Bell Riots being the key point of the 2020s and so WW3 gets pulled forward/different parties are allied than are meant to? Or a civil war breaks out in the US due to the Sanctuary districts not being shut down allowing Russia to take over unopposed?
The queen is handcuffed on the displayI noticed something, the 3D renders of the Borg Queen on the computer display next to the cryo chamber, she her torso is naked, with her arms up covering her breasts.
Very enjoyable. Assuming they wrap up the cliffhanger in the opening minutes of next week’s episode rather than dragging it out for 50 minutes and ending the episode with the slingshot effect, that means we’ll already hit the main season arc after just two and a bit episodes, much better than the dragging prologue from season one.
Great characterisations of the evil counterparts and it was great watching a few characters acclimatise to their surroundings. The scene of President Hansen waking up was cleverly shot to cover up the absence of her implants (shame this was spoiled in the trailers). Much better characterisation for Jurati this week - still kooky but with flashes of the intelligence that was infodumped in season one.
I’m curious as to how the Borg Queen will factor into the rest of the season after they’ve travelled to 2024. Will she be dead when there is no more use for the character, or just kept in a drawer when they’ve landed? Is she manipulating Jurati directly or just exploiting her existing insecurities? What did “there’s a splinter in her flesh” mean? It was said a couple of times but had the vibe of arc words from Doctor Who/Buffy.
seven is very smart, but I don’t think she could do the kind of heavy mental calculations a Vulcan can. Not without her implants, anyway.Just finished watching episode 2. I enjoyed it and it was a good new take on the dystopian Trek future. Only real complaints were the lack of evil twin cameos as this would have been the perfect opportunity (so close to getting Sisko back lol) and them mentioning the Enterprise having to Spock to do the calculations and not even bothering as ask if Seven could manage it because let’s face it, Voyager Seven was smart enough. I did like her test when she woke up though, that felt like The Seven of old.

I noticed that too and it bothered me. (At least in the prime timeline) The queen's organic components don't extend that far down her torso. She's just head and shoulders with her robo-spine poking out the bottom.
CANON VIOLATION alarms are going off.
The new actress playing the Queen does sorta resemble a young Alice Krige with all that makeup on
Especially if they rejigger the distant past history in Trek to better match the real world, by 2024 Russia's façade would have fallen and made clear that they couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag.I *really* don’t think they’ll mention Russia at all, as 1) this was written and filmed way before the war; 2) doing so would quickly make the series dated.
I thought the washing hands thing was about if Picard chose to stay in that timeline and make amendsLooking back over Q's speech, I don't think there is a simple time fix to the changes. If we take him seriously, the problem is in Picard or, more symbolically, in humanity. Picard will fail to wash his hands of what has been done, but can only seek forgiveness.
