Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 4x12 - "Species 10-C"

If this is the evolution of V'Ger more than 900 years after Will Decker joined with it then that'd be a cool way to end the season. V'Ger went from a simple 1990s Earth NASA probe to what the Enterprise encountered in less than three centuries. Imagine what V'Ger would look and be like after another nine.
Yes! This is something I felt about DISC lately, too. Very TOS feeling stories, like right out of TOS bible but lacking in the same... what's the word, execution?
Well, excitement and interest level in most cases, too.
Got a lot of Arrival vibes from this episode, which I'm certain wasn't an accident.
Two fantastic episodes of Trek on the same day, and so much more to look forward to in the coming years. What a time to be a fan.

Now that we're finally at the meaty end of the season, that was a 9. Two 9s today, yay! 
I loved the way how everyone was communicating with the 10-C. It was light and maths equations this week, after the emotions last week.
I wonder if Booker really will die. It would fit into the whole Kobayashi Maru theme from earlier on in the season.
It's a shame the producers are cynical with episode numbers, as this story would all fit so much better in 10 episodes. We've basically had one or two good-ish episodes since the show came back from the break, biding our time until this week.

I thought this episode was superbly written, the way communication was established, how they connected to a species so different, found a common ground... This was more ST than most ST has ever been, imo. What comes closest is perhaps 'One Of Out Planets Is Missing' from TAS. In fact, I think that the writers took this episode as the main inspiration for this season's story, and really built from there.
I do wonder how they will wrap this up... I was so invested in the DSC crew establishing contact with Species Ten-C, and I was really rooting for them to succeed. I was really hoping Tarka wouldn't mess this up for them, and in that regard, DSC's S4 is working for me..! I WANT them to do this, I want them to make this work. It's not really about 'saving Earth' or 'saving the galaxy', the core is really much smaller: can we find common ground, can we reach a level of understanding? I think these are vastly interesting ideas, concepts and themes, and for me, this season has been a very strong emotional ride. Loved every second of it, and I'm ready to be dazzled by the finale next week..!

I was thinking about Tilly watching this episode. I wish she would have been there, with her Math enthusiasm and all.

Well...I think we can all be confident now that someone in the writing team is a big fan of Arrival. It was better than the last couple of interminable episodes, because something actually happened. And Jett Reno is always good fun.
But once again the doughty crew of Discovery prove themselves to be smarter than the best people available... except in Engineering, where Stamets, Adira, Culber, and even Zora seemed determine to fight one another to the death over who got to hold the idiot ball longest. And can someone just shoot Tarka for god's sake? Literally all the shit in the entire second half of the season is his fault, everyone knows it's his fault, but they also apparently think they can talk him out of doing whatever he wants to do, or at least bore him into acquiescence in the attempt, despite any and all evidence to the contrary.

It's a plot hole. I think the writers just wanted Reno to be on Book's ship so she could have her moment with Book but they gloss over how she got there.
Is Tig Notaro's back still shot or injured? Cause alot of her scenes have only shown her standing, barely walking, or sitting.
I googled up her history and she seems to have had spinal fusion surgery back ~ 2019?

Gave it a 9 was quite a good episode, though the Tarka stuff is very predictable and.. Blah..
Why didn't book shut off the ship? Block tarka out? Or even shoot the ship? Ugh.. Alot of ways that sub plot could have ended long ago..

Excellent episode, easily the best of the season so far. Loved the deep sci fi first contact plot. Now off to watch Picard!
By solving a problem my five year old nephew could figure out.

* Black licorice: good for eating, good for powering short range communications.

Not really much to say, as the episode is really rather self-explanatory in its own right. I do enjoy the layer upon layer of context put down in this episode, how everything means something different depending upon one's point of view. I also enjoy the work to communicate across the emotional and linguistic gulf of two wildly different cultures and species. I feel like this episode is working to take on a truly alien "where no one has gone before" vibe, and I think it works quite well, all things considered. This episode gets an 8/10.
