In the US, Disney brands itself as family/kids entertainment which often is associated with being anodyne with things such as sex, language and graphic violence so I think there's a premium set on keeping such things strictly separated from Disney branded platforms. Having Hulu as another platform not explicitly branded as Disney allows them to split the content and not have parents angry that little Billy saw something inappropriate because they didn't set the parental controls as they should have.

Then why is Disney + in other countries allowed to put it all under one service and not mind being associated with stuff like "Pam and Tommy"?

That I can't really answer due to my (in)experience. I was trying to clear up some confusion I've seen by explaining what I know about the US.

Because they like making money. And it's not under Disney+, it's under Star which comes with Disney+ (and which can be locked off with Parental Controls).

However, it's not just R-rated stuff on Star, it's anything Disney owns that isn't a Disney branded product. I'm scrolling through the list of shows and movies now and there's plenty of kids and family stuff there.

Yes, I've known that since 1979, when Disney tried to go more adult with The Black Hole and other such films, but found that the films' box office was hurt by the public expectation that Disney films could only be for children. Leading, of course, to the creation of the Touchstone Pictures imprint to distribute their more adult content under, even though it was still made by Disney.

People really do read far too much into labels.

I don't. Anything that's exclusive to Hulu has always made its way here to Canada other ways, like how "Runaways" was a Hulu program but was shown on the Showcase channel here.

Oh, you're Canadian. Ok ignore my comment.

Yeah, here Disney owns a controlling stake in Hulu (or do they own the whole thing now?) so they put their mature stuff there.

Most likely its because they don't have a convenient second service that they own to dump it onto.

Basically, they just want to force American consumers into subscribing to multiple streaming services.
To be fair, Hulu has been around over a decade longer than D+, so it's not like they set it up just to force Americans to buy two services, and they it has a lot of non-Disney stuff on it too.

According to Wikipedia, Comcast/NCBUniversal still owns 33% of it, so it's not entirely theirs.

Yup those shows are definitely going to Hulu. Has a Netflix original ever been yanked from Netflix?

I don't know about pulled, but I know in some places such as South Africa (and most of the continent because that's where the channels come from), House of Cards and other early Netflix series are not found on Netflix itself because their broadcast rights are owned by television networks.

I'm actually more interested in seeing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. leave Netflix and move to Disney Plus.

It's already there, all seven seasons. In Germany, at least ... no idea about the rest of the world.

I wonder why Runaways season three is not there there, yet. Neither is Cloak and Dagger.

Well that's the last thing of interest on Netflix going for me. I wish the family would let me cancel.

Here's hoping the Marvel shows end up on D+ as I'd been very lackadaisical about getting through them all and won't manage it before they go. And there's no Hulu over here.
