I, too, would say Dal says surprisingly quickly moved from annoying to actually a really likeable character. It was like 4 episodes ago I was decrying him...

I’m glad you got on board! ‪‪I think they planted all the seeds for everything really well, and the young adult Dal is becoming follows from the snarky, scared, defensive, desperate, and traumatized teenager we met in the first episode.

It’s been cool to see how this writing team has used every story and character element they’ve given us to combine and paint the whole picture. While everything in fiction is deliberate, it doesn’t always pay off so satisfyingly, and with only 22 minutes or so an episode.

Wonderful! We all knew they were going back to save the others, but they are doing it well, I really enjoyed this. Exciting and still with some deep, I’m looking forward to the conclusion.

I’m a bit confused about why they put on Starfleet uniforms (whose design I don’t particularly like), but perhaps it will become clear next week.

Starfleet should really stop being cheap in building commbadges.

Gave it a 9.

Sweet cheeses this show rocks because John Noble embodies a frightening antagonist giving the newcomers a terrific run for their money. No one does twisted father better than Noble, and there is no other crew I would love to see defeat him in the end.

The Protostar is a beautiful ship, too. My compliments to all her animators.

Evil hologram Janeway! Well...Dark Mode anyway. So dark the Janeway Bun is in danger of creating a singularity and swallowing all surrounding matter!

I think people kind of overlook a factor regarding the Prime Directive, which is the fact it only applies to GOVERNMENTS. The Diviner from all intents and purposes appears to not run a government but is a single insane criminal and his army of robots. While you could argue criminals aren't part of Star Fleet's purview to deal with, there's nothing prohibiting them dealing with one as well.

And yes, he has committed crimes against the Federation--specifically attacking their ship and whatever he did with the crew.

I have to admit I did forget that the Diviner probably killed Chakotay. I don't know if that says more about me as a viewer or Chakotay as a character. :( In that case, I agree the Diviner would have committed an act of war against the Fed and the Fed can justifiably take Gwyn's side. Still disagree on sending the kids in for all that though.

Regardless, Oh on Picard did tons of criminal stuff in the Fed including fraud, treason, espionage, mind-violating a Federation citizen, etc. and there was still legal quibbling over her ability to orbitally bombard the synth planet.

It could be argued that, since the kids have detailed inside knowledge of Tars Lamora, that they would be uniquely suited for a mission to infiltrate it.
Picard: They believe that a man who was once captured and assimilated by the Borg should not be put in a situation where he would face them again. To do so would introduce an unstable element to a critical situation.
Riker: That's ridiculous! Your experience of the Borg makes you the perfect man to lead this fight.
Picard: Admiral Hayes disagrees.

Reading the messages, I am reminded of something Data said in "The Last Outpost":

They should add that Starfleet has permitted several civilizations to fall. We have at times allowed the strong and violent to overcome the weak.

Well this was by far the best episode yet. The twist was pretty well done. Actually looking forward to next week's episode this time, whereas while I haven't hated previous Prodigy episodes I have often felt underwhelmed by them.

Putting this in writing (even though I doubt I’m the only one with this theory)… Going to venture a guess the Diviner is a Starfleet officer, perhaps from the Protostar, who got abandoned, perhaps somehow with the time travel shenanigans, putting him far back in time and is kept alive through other means to get his revenge. Sounds very Krall when I type it out. We’ll see, I suppose.

“Mr. Worf… Fire.”

I wouldn’t say that was abrupt. That was a proper cliffhanger. One of the best out there.

Her massive space armada certainly helped.

I had a fleeting thought when the Diviner took the captain’s chair that he was Chakotay.

I’ve had that some kind of feeling for a while. Kind of a Krall type situation. Either that or they will find a chained up Chakotay with a long beard imprisoned somewhere.

I liked the episode but again, it feels way too short. Too compressed. I get that it’s cut up as if it’s being broadcast on Nick but they could easily do a streaming version that is longer and also do a more trimmed up version for cable. And I know LD episodes are right around the same length but they don’t have that same compressed feeling.

Very good stuff. 9 for me.

Everyone acting smartly and understandably. I get being reluctant to return. But they go anyway to save the others.

I love the way the crew has come together. Gwyn & Rok-tok are my favorites. Really nice arc for Rok-tok. Gwyn on a redemption arc.

They came up with a good plan.

I bet the original plan was to have both parts of the 2 parter shown at the same time, like the opener.
