Discovery mid season finale Dec 30, S4 returns Feb 10

So I guess SNW starts in June then? If they go straight to LD after that, it would be consistent with LD's yearly schedule, but then they might do another Prodigy run of episodes before that as well (there's supposed to be 20 this season).

With Prodigy’s 20 episode season order, and the second half of the first season set to come later in 2022, I think it’s highly probable that they’ll stretch the release of Prodigy’s seasons, with 10 episodes for around every calendar year. If they do release LD first, and there aren’t any gaps or overlaps in between Trek series, then Prodigy’s S01E11 would premiere on October 13th, 2022, just under a year after the series premiere.

Because of how perfectly it lines up, that’s my current guess. With the current number of series and their number of episodes, half a Prodigy season a year puts the overall number of Trek episodes at 53. If it’s a full 20 Prodigy episodes released annually, it puts the total Trek episodes at 63, and starts to offset everything by over two months, so that feels less likely to me.

We’ll have to wait and see, ‪‪I suppose!

As someone pointed out to me in Twitter, this kind of makes sense. For 2022, there are these episodes coming:

5 episodes of Prodigy (confirmed)
6 episodes of Discovery (confirmed if 13 episodes this season is correct)
10 episodes of Picard (confirmed)
10 episodes of Strange New Worlds (unconfirmed)
10 episodes of Lower Decks (unconfirmed)
10 episodes of Prodigy S2 (unconfirmed)

That would do 51 episodes, which would make one episode per week for the whole year. This would mean that Picard is actually delayed, though.

Prodigy’s remaining episode count in 2022 is confirmed. It was announced with the initial hiatus that season 1 is 20 episodes long, not 10, and the second half would release “later in 2022.”

So it’s not season 2 coming in the fall, it’s the second half of season 1, episodes 11-20.

Edit: Lower Decks Season 3’s episode count was also confirmed as 10 in its initial renewal announcement, for what it’s worth.

Yeah, I think the execs want a new Trek episode for us to watch every week, so we keep the subscriptions. Plus, by breaking up some of the shows' seasons and alternating them, they're more liable to keep more subscribers. So if someone doesn't like Disco but likes Prodigy, well, why cancel their subscription, when Prodigy will return in a month? And vice versa. In addition, this gives them incentive to keep making new shows, as all shows inevitably end and to keep things fresh and exciting in case viewers get bored at the same stuff (as well as having fresh new jumping on points for new users). I also predict we'll see more future kid oriented Trek - when the kid audience for Prodigy ages up, they'll want a new 'kid show' to appeal to The Next Generation. *cue TNG music*

It still astounds me how much Trek we're getting - I never thought TV Trek was dead for a moment, but I also never thought we'd be getting this much of it!

For some strange reason, I don't mind the gap in DSC Season 4, especially if the seventh episode makes for a good break point in the story. Makes the season last longer in Real Time. But on the other hand, I'm annoyed that PIC Season 2 has been delayed.

The rest can come out whenever. As much as I like Prodigy, no hurry. But I'm still looking forward to seeing more.

I just thought of something: Since DSC likes to wrap up everything by the end of its seasons, the mid-season is the best spot to have a cliffhanger. I'm not expecting "Mr. Worf, fire!" But a mid-season cliffhanger is where you can still have something like that. And the wait would only be a month instead of a year. So it's closer to having the same type of effect as it used to. Imagine if, in the early-'90s, the audience had to wait a whole year between "The Best of Both Worlds", Parts I and II. That would've been insane. I think that's why the UK aired Part II the week after Part I, before taking a break, instead of waiting.

Ugh, I find this scheduling really off-putting and alienating.

For Prodigy, 5 episodes is simply not enough to make a block. Especially for kids. I literally just had this discussion over the holidays with my sibling and their spouse -- we were strategizing when we are going to attempt to hook my nephew on Prodigy. But we're not even trying yet, because if it does hook him, only having a tiny handful of episodes will push him back out.

And for Discovery, that is a show that has always been written as if it's designed to binge. They're already pushing it by then stretching it out for a weekly release. To add unexpected breaks on top of that is obnoxious.

(Though honestly, I like the weekly release and my preference would be for them to stop writing it like a binge show. Write the show you're actually making instead!)

I mean, overall I'm loving this era of Trek, but it would be nice if they step away from an incompetent programming strategy that diminishes the shows and makes them less satisfying in actual viewing.

THOUGH...

This is a persuasive argument! If they have written a proper, exciting, large scale, season-break-style cliffhanger, maybe I'll come around. I guess I'm about to find out... :bolian:

Just realised, this is likely it for Disco on PlutoTV. Paramount+ international launch was meant to be February, right? Get your wallets out to find out what happens next...

She appears to be on the Discovery's bridge in a 32nd C uniform in the clip (with Linus). They clearly have a 32nd C alternative to those things the Barzan wore, even if she still has something leftover.

Nhan can compare ;)

Good catch! ‪‪I noticed the new uniform as well, it looks the same as Lt. Willa’s variant, with the solid gray portion with the hexagonal texturing on the top of her uniform.
