Discovery mid season finale Dec 30, S4 returns Feb 10

Ugh, I hate mid-season breaks like this. I mean, if this was a 26 episode season like Berman-Trek that’s one thing. But for 10-13 episodes…c’mon.
Maybe post-production is running behind.

Though the fact the break is as long as the next 10 episodes of Prodigy makes me think they don't want overlap.

Wasn't production halted briefly because someone contracted COVID? Is this a result of that?

Possibly, the time between the end of filming, August, and then the premiere of the season in November ‪‪I think too everyone by surprise.

They’re most likely still finalizing post production on the last several episodes, and the exact release schedule seems specifically designed to keep the shows from overlapping, what with Prodigy stopping right after the Discovery premiere, and then coming in with its next five episodes during this Disco hiatus.

I hope the mid-season finale was written with being split into two parts in mind. If it was, it should be one hell of a cliffhanger.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I like that we're getting closer to getting new Star Trek year 'round, on the other, when they allow overlap we get a delightful glut of Star Trek at once. The one night we got new Lower Decks, Discovery, Ready Room and Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek episodes was fun.

Well, Season 1 finished filming a month after it started airing, and Season 2 finished filming a month before.
Season 1 did have a 2 month break, but Season 2 had none.

But yes, Covid could be slowing down post-production still.

Great points! ‪‪From different accounts from the production of both Discovery and The Mandalorian, they’re able to front load a bit of what used to be post production when using the AR wall, which ‪‪I imagine sped things up a bit, but as you say, with all the myriad COVID delays, they probably still have time to make up for.

Welp...looks like I'm going to unsubscribe then. There's literally no reason to have any kinds of these breaks on streaming services, yet these idiots want to play around like its still network tv. Hope that my lack of payment makes them reconsider, but I doubt it. These breaks help NOTHING!

I wonder if there has been a delay with Picard and they decided a month break for Disco would give Picard extra time to finish up.

overlapping Disco and Prodigy seems like it would be better than having nothing on air.

I don't know why my gut is so strongly in favor of thinking post-production on Picard is going swimmingly, but yeah. I'd be surprised.

We may never know!

I love how they inform people last minute. It’s like they’re making these schedules up a week in advance.

So I guess SNW starts in June then? If they go straight to LD after that, it would be consistent with LD's yearly schedule, but then they might do another Prodigy run of episodes before that as well (there's supposed to be 20 this season).
