Emphasis on wagon.

Interesting visualization of perfect.Doug Drexler was so close to a perfect design
Enterprise-J needs to be a mix of the Universe-Class & Congo-Class to look right IMO.
Doug Drexler was so close to a perfect design, but he lacked time to get it right.
Interesting visualization of perfect.
It really looks as if it suffered from lack of development time from start to finish. Still not quite sure what to make of the window placements on such a flat-looking saucer.
Fascinating. There are aspects of both sister designs that I like.
They just need to be slightly merged together with various aspects to be perfect to my eyes.
That is exactly what happened according to Doug. Limited budget for the episode. It really looks as if it suffered from lack of development time from start to finish.
IIRC Someone above Doug's paygrade wanted the design to look similar to the NX-01.
My mom is still mad about no flying cars. How sad, thinking what might have been.

I always assumed that, in-universe, the reason why the Enterprise-J looks so much like the NX-01 was because starship design had become stagnated by the ongoing war against the Sphere Builders.
Meaning: In that timeline, Starfleet had to funnel so much into the war effort - and was severely depleted because of all the destruction and loss of life - that there was precious little left to devote to starship design. So that's why the Ent-J is just an NX-01 on steroids.
I know there's no onscreen evidence of this, but it's totally going in my headcanon.![]()
I don't think the sphere builders started during the 22nd Century in that timeline. Unless the Xindi escaped from the expanse as there were Xindi serving on the Ent-J.The Prime universe didn’t have the Sphere Builders encroaching their Expanse from the 22nd century onward.

Though the Sphere Builders were the ones that directed them to habitable worlds in ENT, so I guess maybe in the Ent-J's timeline, they made it as far as local space as refugees and were caught up in the formation of the Federation.
