Does this have any support in DS9 Homefront? Because I just remember Admiral Leyton running circles around Jaresh Inyo but just don't remember the specifics.

Yes, and it's that way in most modern democracies. The supreme chief of the armies is the democratically elected president, not some general whose motivations could be contrary to the vox populi. It was already that way in democratic Rome where general Julius Caesar acquired supreme power through essentially a coup d'etat that led to his assassination but that's another story.

but as a series I'm just wondering, who is the audience? It's supposed to be the prime timeline but everything about it, especially the tone and the action just screams Kelvin timeline. It comes across as "generic Sci-fi show" than a Star Trek show.
See all those people raging about Paramount+ buying out Netflix 2 days before the show was due to air? That's the audience. You don't have to have some silly "prime!", "kelvin!" binary headspace to slot it into, they like it for what it is. Alex Kurtzman called Discovery "bringing the look and feel of our Star Trek movies to television" but to be honest only really felt that in season two. I think it's evolved into something quite different now.

For what it's worth, the 3188-set DSC novel "Wonderlands" explores the impact the Temporal Wars had on ripping the Federation apart even before the Burn.

Darnit! That story began on a series and should have been ended on one, not in non-canon lit.
Tribble: SQUEAK!
Admiral Vance: Hey!
Culber (scans Vance): Mike, this man is a Klingon!

Tribble: baQa'!!
Admiral Vance: Hey!
Culber (scans Tribble): Mike, this Tribble is a Klingon!

think Ash/Voq.

If the DSC tribble (which I'm guessing was a re-use of a CG tribble model they had from a Short Trek) is in fact a crew member, what does that mean for the species if it's edible on one hand and a fully sentient being on the other?
Eh, you got any gum? Disturbingly good question.... They evolved to taste bitter over the decades?

Kovich will be back this season, and in a recent interview Cronenberg said that Kovich’s job at Starfleet was that of historian, and he was their resident Terran Empire/Mirror Universe expert.

Last year I was hoping he might be Odo, now I am hoping he might be Carl, incognito.

Disco has a good track record for strong season openers. Now comes the mystery box...

I liked The President.

Kelvinverse opening (fuck you STID - we have two cliff jumps).

I wonder if Stamets/Burnham will be addressed? Also, was a little disappointed to see him shunted to "I'm given it all she's got cap'n!" ...

I enjoyed it more than I would've expected, but I feel that way with every new season of Disco. It's all about the follow through. Is Burnham being primed for some real growth? Perhaps setting her up to lose someone under her command we are familiar with / she is close to in order to finally shatter her preconceptions the Universe will always bow to her will (which frankly, given the course of the series, is a fairly justified perspective)?

Past experience tells me the writers dangle these carrots before getting distracted by mystery box unpacking and a whizz bang wrap up with Burnham saving all the things - and everyone who justifiably criticized her has to eat crow. Something different this time round would be welcome.

So Nalas, the commander of the DS repair station, steals not only his name from another show, but his species too? @Mike McDevitt , I believe you're up. :)

His makeup strongly resembles that of a heretofore unnamed background species seen on the Cerritos in Lower Decks. Would this be a deliberate pull? one wonders how this is coordinated in the franchise. The Lurian this week is almost certainly the same prosthetic seen on the gangster Lurian(s) last season. Glad they're still around.

Mark

He doesn't look much like his namesake, the Bajoran Li Nalas, great hero of the past. He's called Akoszonam, first time hearing a name for these guys we've seen before. Akosnozam do resemble Antarans to me, and have a certain Denobulan-long dexterous tongue, at least in the case of Kima and her mom from the 'Children of Mars' short! Could Akoszonam have a kinship with both Antarans and Denobulans? Maybe dark-eyed Nalas even has some Betazoid lineage in the mix? Nalas is probably not a Lurian, though. Love that continuity, love that IDIC!

Twitter expert spotted another Akoszonam with dark eyes, no Betazoid ancestry required.

Trek involves multiple continuities, be they canon or not, so there's plenty of room for that story to be picked up in novels, comics, games and episodes.

Well that was an impressive start, and a shocker of an ending. Presumably Saru will get Voyager, I hope they don’t go for Tilly, especially with the big hoo-har about experience (not that Saru has much). She’s been promoted faster than Nog, and when we compare her career with poor old Harry…

Was Stamets ok? Felt he was a bit distracted, and not just with Adira.

Did I miss an explanation of why they couldn’t use a tractor beam?

Is it my imagination or has Tilly put on some weight since the last time we saw her?
You didn't imagine it. I imagine it was the result of being isolated at home during a pandemic. Lots of people packed on a few pounds of pandemic weight, myself included. I'm kind of glad that the show is making no effort to hide the fact. It is what it is and she is who she is. I have a friend who was once close to 300 pounds before starting a strict workout regimen, and she just absolutely adores Tilly. Representation of all kinds does indeed matter.
