Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

Also, unless there's a mistake in the article, it makes it sound like the first season will be 20 episodes long.
The press release is clearer about it:

Following a mid-season break, the remaining five episodes of season one’s first half will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays, starting on Thursday, Jan. 6. The 10-episode-long second half of season one will be available on Paramount+ at a later date next year, to be announced.
20 episodes: yay!

Next year: boo!

And they might as well call the additional 10 episodes that are gonna come out in a year season 2, instead of season 1 part II

They didn't say "in a year," they said later next year. That could be March or April, for all we know.

Heck, the TNG-era shows always had a couple of big midseason breaks, because they were airing 26 episodes over roughly 39 weeks. It took more than a week to produce each episode, so they had to take breaks to give the production time to catch up. Typically they'd start in early September, take a hiatus from late November to mid-January, then take 3-4 weeks off sometime in March to April.

The weird part of all of this is they're premiering the "quarter-season finale" at the same time as Discovery's pilot - then slamming it shut. I mean, if this week was the last episode, I could understand, because they didn't want Trek to overlap.

That it starts up again in January is also weird, because Discovery's fourth season will run until February 10th. So the two shows will be running concurrently over a lot of their run regardless.

But having a "second part of the first season" later in 2022 isn't weird. I've noticed modern streaming kids shows do this a lot - produce the show in smaller bunches which come out whenever they're finished, with the whole concept of seasons pretty notational.

Anybody else think that They rushed to get the first three episodes done so that They'd have something to show between the end of LOWER DECKS and the start of DISCOVERY?

Perhaps that's the reason for the long break now?

They simply aren't ready yet.
