Spoilers The Ships of Lower Decks

Its like DS9, the ship sized are all over the map when it comes to them close together... Which is abit of a.. well.. weasel way to go about it these days, Its all in the computer.. can size everytthing correctly.. but they don't.. ugh..
One thing about Enterprise I loved.. Consistent sizeing..

Well, this one is from the Nova stock, for which VOY has already established the ideal combo:

- Comes in at least two shapes (Equinox and Rhode Island)
- Comes in at least two roles (meek planetary surveyor, patroller of borders and slayer of Klingons)
- Has staying power across two eras (early 2370s at the very latest, but also early 2400s)

So, anything goes! One of 'em being a police cruiser with a fancy Dayglo checkerboard pattern to the hull sides is only to be expected, along with a spacelane-clearing variant, a tractor for space circus wagons, and a space whale ambulance. And, yes, a generic testbed for anti-Borg superweapons if need be.

The size is given by the perspective, establishing "tiny" over "oh, perhaps this is an Inquiry after all?". A fitting ride to infamy for Freeman, although I wouldn't have minded Starfleet Security utilizing something like the Osler, either.

Squeeee! I finally watched the rest of S2. The Vulcan ships are growing on me.

I am still just a tad confused as to why Vulcan, being long-standing members of the Federation, would still have their own fleet.

They're not thinking of seceding, are they? :(

I’d like to think that many members would maintain their own homefleets. It’s just a pity Earth doesn’t keep a dedicated Earthfleet around for times of trouble.

Aside from that, any member culture may have particular needs for ships of their own that they don’t want to outsource to Starfleet. In DS9, a Vulcan science vessel explored the GQ.

If the scenes with the Vulcan cruiser actually took place in their system, I might agree...

in any case, I just hope this doesn't portend any tensions between the Vulcans and the rest of the Federation. Especially since we know that...

after the Burn, Vulcan actually DOES secede! :(

The Vulcan Science Directorate may want to maintain their own fleet for exploration done their own way.

And the Vulcans probably have their own Fleet to protect Vulcan Businesses and Services that travel from their home Star System.

While Star Fleet protect the whole of the UFP, the Vulcan Ships might Prioritize Vulcan Colonies, Businesses, & Services first, then UFP allies when possible.

Kind of like the difference between the Federal Military in the US and the State's National Guard.

There could be a seperation of StarFleet for the all of UFP and each Member Species Local Defense Forces for their local Star Systems & Colonies.

They have been... and always shall be... racist elitist assholes.

I suppose so.

Solok certainly was, although part of that could be chalked up to a personal rivalry with Sisko.

And the captain of the Sh'Vahl clearly didn't think much of the Federation either, given how he chose to "demote" T'Lyn by ordering her transferred to a Starfleet vessel.

I don't think it was a "Demotion", it was sending T'Lyn to a organization that fit her way of thinking and behavior.

Yes, they got lucky during that battle that T'Lyn's program was written well and worked without incident. But not everybody is going to get their program written correctly on the first try and validate that it doesn't have bugs.

As a programmer myself, I know many programmers who are lazy and don't take the time to test & validate their own code. Especially for edge cases. It's a real problem in the programming community.

So the Captain was lucky that the Sh'Vahl made it through by taking a leap of faith hunch on her programming skills and that her program boosted the output of their shields so significantly, that it changed the tide of battle.

But leaps of faith & hunches aren't realistic in every single scenario IRL. Depending on that gets people into trouble more often than not. And I can understand the Captain's point of view of wanting a more regimented crew who goes by the book.

Well, we know that Starfleet and the Vulcan Expeditionary Group were still two separate organizations in 2250, when Sarek made the wrong decision as to which child let join the group.

They do. It's called the "Starfleet". Been around since before the days of Archer. All the other Federation members just snicker and let Earth fight all their wars with their delusions of grandeur.

But we have no real reason to think that those two organizations would have competed for the same role. The Federation of TNG and LDS might be full of "national" expeditionary groups and whatever in the research sense, with Starfleet still the only armed forces allowed. But here the Sh'Vhal seems to perform general Starfleetish tasks...

...And Ma'ah then expresses the sentiment that "Starfleet" and "the Vulcans" are two distinct sets of enemies, or two sets that would become enemies through the Klingon actions, as if each could make their own decision on that.
